KANPUR: A 25-year-old mother of two kids was set on fire on Saturday for allegedly resisting sexual advances in Kanpur Dehat.
The incident was reported from the Musanagar police area. Doctors attending to her at the community health centre in Pukhrayan said that she suffered 80 per cent burns and her condition was critical.
According to reports, local villager Lalu entered her house when she was alone and made advances. However, as the women raised an alarm, he poured kerosene and set her ablaze. Other villagers had informed the police who took her to the CHC Pukhrayan.
The woman narrated the horrifying incident to the nayab tehsildar, who recorded her statement at the hospital and briefed senior police officers about the same. .
Station Officer Devendra Dwivedi said, "A case of attempt to rape and attempt to murder has been filed against the accused who is absconding."
It was also learnt that the accused Lalu, used to often harass the victim.
