And was just amazed at how close the Germans came to winning against British if it was was for not a wrong decision to Attack Russian by Hitler.

The Documentary 13 hours long , covered the German Tank Strategies and their Technological advantage vs the opposition and , demonstrated that in absense of Airforce how easy it was for German Tanks to win over cities and Territories

Infact it was stated that they were so close to Moscow at one point that the capital city was 6 miles away from being captured by German Tanks , if it was not for the SNOW fall that slowed down the tanks , allowing Russians to bring in their own Heavy tanks the following year. Imagine if it had not snowed , 6 miles only what sperated Germans to take over Moscow's capital

1) Germany won tons of territory with mere advantage of having a fast tank with high accuracy
2) German commanders excelled in surrounding the enegy from two fronts and cutting of supplies
3) The Superior performance of German Airforce in early years of War.

German, success was checked by Allied forces by development of

a) Radars that predicted the approach of the airforce fighter planes
b) Capture of German Encryption Machines

The documentary covered very well , how various generals , approached the war and their tactics to capture territories and suprisingly they all had a simple strategy

a) Rush in with Tanks
b) The infantary followed on foot (There were no helicopters etc)

I find that our forces some what follow this same tactic with no Heclicopters strangely so there were some parellels and the artilery was some what similar as well.

There was some great coverage of the Defence day invasion on France shores and the "Decoys" they used on the fake locations , like inflatable tanks and inflatable forces.

Another eye opener , in the documentaries were the amount of Ships that were planned for Invasion of Japan by Allied forces

1300 ships ... yes ... 1300 ships of all sizes and shapes were parked in Philiphines / Japan waters planning a invasion via , I compare Pakistan's 10 ships now to that number from 1942 just collasal number and Industrial age marvel

They showed a snap shot in color of the ships parked in pacific it was just tremendous amount of ships

The Role of Navy was very important as it showed that the NAVY allowed England to survive the initial years of war when US was not involved and also US supplied England with Tanks and Planes which effected the war efforts

When the number of the ships was disclosed , it became apparent , what was the true outof the American continent was "TREMENDOUS" I mean when americans joined the war , Germany was at that point outnumbered and tactically defeated

Had Hitler not invaded Russians , and Russian had a "treaty with Germans" of not interfering perhaps England would have remained England.

It was amazing to view how important it is

a) To stay technologically advance
b) Ability to transport troops
c) Airforce importance
d) Industrial power of nation

The game changer in War was not missiles and rockets but it was how quickly your Tanks can advance with Troops and occupy key areas

The Game changers was how your Navy can maintain supplies route from England to Asia

But the radars and the "Decoding Operation" in England for German orders allowed Allied forces to be ready and have defensive Interceptor planes in air - and Germans did not know how the Allied froces always knew their plans ahead of time.

One thing that did emerge was that many Muslim Nations do have weaponry from WW2 era sadly and that is truth with out the Navy or Airforce

Great. Thanks for sharing.

What's the name of the documentary? Who is the producer/editor?

WW-2 is perhaps the biggest source of learning for anyone interested in the art and science of modern warfare. It is a must for understanding how NOT to fight a war. The only exception to these lessons is the intruduction of air-cavalry by USA in Vietnam, and the deadly and successful use of air-cavalry by Russians in 1985-86 in Afghanistan.

Don't want to glorify war. I always say that war is an ultimate be-aach. But however abhorrent war is, MEN must prepare for it and be ready 24/7. If they don't, they and their women will be annihilated.

Coming back to WW-2, it proves over and over that you got to have air and naval superirioty. The day you lose one or both, you are a gonner. Done! Finisio! Khatam!

peace

p.s. In WW-2, largest contribution of non-White soldiers was from British Indian army. And the largest component of BIA was from Northern Punjab (Chakwal, Pindi, Jehlum, Gujrat, and Gujranwala) and KPK (Charsadda and Peshawar), pretty much the regions along the famed GT road.

.
To me the two greatest learnings of WW II came from the defeats.

The men who stood out were Marshall Zukov & FM Slim who after comprehensive defeats in Russia & Burma respectively rose from the ashes almost singly without allied ground support and fought back to win all the lost lands.

Depending on which side you view these campaigns from one finds things not to do & how to do.
