Journalists face tough time at Games Village
NEW DELHI: Even as the visiting athletes and international delegates are enjoying some "excellent" food at Commonwealth Games Village, the army of media persons, who are there at the venue for the coverage, are virtually left starving.
Due to security reasons, no one is allowed to enter the Games Village with any food item and to add to their woes there are no food counters for the journalists even inside the Village, which has left them live on just tea and biscuits.
A vending machine, serving tea and coffee, at the media centre, are the only things available to the scribes.
About 30 mediapersons are always present at the media centre, while several others are stationed at the International Zone, where one can only get some maggie, chocolates and cold drinks but there also, a scribe has access for only 45 minutes.
"We had asked the volunteers to make some food available to us. We also told them that we would pay for it but they claimed that the orders will have to come from the higher ranks," said a journalist.
Journalists and cameramen, who are stationed at entry gate, do not even have access to water. They have to depend on the volunteers if they need some.
The unavailability of food is not the only problem the journalists are facing, some of them, who failed to collect their accreditation cards earlier, have also complained that they were denied data cards, which were distributed earlier along with the accreditation cards.
"It's annoying," said one senior scribe. Things might have been improving in the Games Village but journalists are still having tough times.
