Jobs to overflow in next few days, claims Vawda

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Water Resources, Faisal Vawda on Monday claimed that the government would offer a number of job opportunities for unemployed youth in next few days.

Talking to New Channel, the minister stunned the host and the guest of the show with his claims that there would be more jobs than it is required within weeks.

He added that the present government was well aware of the problems of masses and measures to redress them were being taken.

In reply to a question about expelling media workers, the minister urged the owners of the media houses to stop terminating workers otherwise they could face shortage of employees in days to come.

Vawda reiterated the government's stance that it would fulfill its responsibilities regarding alleviating poverty.

Taking a swipe at previous governments, Vawda said that the economic crisis was created by previous regimes, adding that the heavy borrowing of loans taken by the last governments had opened up a big challenge for the present leadership.

Criticizing the policies of the last governments, he further said that the country was confronted with multiple economic challenges, adding that the leaders of PPP and PML-N had destroyed the institutions and economy.

To a question, he hoped that system in Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is being improved, and people would not face any difficulty in paying taxes.

Even if they do discover oil it won't increase employment in the country. In fact it might have the opposite effect. Resource extraction will not employ a lot of people. What it will do is increase the value of the rupee and have a dampening effect on our other exports which will lead to deindustrialization and unemployment. This is called Dutch disease, btw, and we already suffer from a form of this because of our security services exports crowding out other sectors of the economy.
