ISRO prepares to observe World Space Week - The Hindu
The centres of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) in Thiruvananthapuram will organise various competitions for school students as part of the celebrations of the World Space Week from October 4 to 10.
The registration process for participating in the competitions has commenced. A highlight of the event, Water Rocket Launching Competition, will be held on October 3 in Kochi.
The competition, organised for students of Classes 8, 9 and 10, is for making and launching a water rocket model.
An All Kerala Essay Competition will be conducted for high school students of classes 8, 9 and 10. The essay entries, which will be based on the theme ‘Discovering New Earths,’ can be in Malayalam, Hindi or English. Handwritten essays, not exceeding 2,000 words, must reach the VSSC by September 21. The best essay will win the GSLV Gold Medal.
An All Kerala Inter School Quiz Competition will be conducted for students of classes 9, 10, 11 and 12 on October 3. The competition, based on the theme ‘Space’, will be held at three zones in Thiruvananthapuram, Thrissur and Kozhikode.
A team shall consist of two students and only one team can represent a school. Registrations can be made by mailing to wswquiz@vssc.gov.in on or before September 25.
Other competitions that are being organised include All Kerala Painting Competition, interaction with space scientists for school children, lectures at selected schools of the State, open house at VSSC, and sounding rocket launches.
