2,000 New Judea Samaria Housing Units Announced - Inside Israel - News - Israel National News

Israel has advanced constructionplans for over 2,000 new housing units in six Judea and Samaria communities, a defense official said on Thursday.

The official, Guy Inbar, is a spokesman for the Civil Administration, the IDF unit tasked with approving construction in the region.

Inbar told AFP that a Defense Ministry committee on February 19 pushed forward plans on 2,269 housing units that had already been submitted.

The committee approved 1,015 units in the communities of Leshem, Beit El, and Almog, meaning the construction is only waiting now for Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon's final approval. An additional 1,254 units in Ariel, Shvut Rachel and Shavei Shomron were published in the media for public comment before further discussion in the committee.

Lior Amihai of the far-left group Peace Now was quick to criticize the prospect of new Jewish homes, saying the plans "distance us from the two-state solution."

The announcement comes after Jerusalem councilman Yosef Pepe Alalu of the far-left Meretz party reported Wednesday that plans to build 186 new housing units in eastern Jerusalem had been "finalized." The units are planned for the neighborhoods of Pisgat Ze'ev and Har Homa.

Israel is in great need of new housing units, given the ongoing housing crisis. In February, the Bank of Israel revealed that housing prices rose a whopping 8% in 2013.

...................

For those that can't notice, this site is a right wing Israeli site so they refer to Palestinian land with ancient terminology and they call illegal settlements which the whole world stands against 'housing units'. So just be careful when you're reading such news don't let it carry you off.

In all peace negotiations, Ariel was slated to stay as part of Israel.

It is not considered to be the same as other settlements.

So this is building in what will be Israel whatever the final peace agreement.

Occupied territory is occupied territory, there's no excuses to it.

You're not listening.

In all negotiations between the two sides in history, Ariel was always going to stay in Israel with perhaps territorial swaps to compensate.

Even the international community treats Ariel differently.

So this is building in what will definitely be Israel.

No it isn't, only Israel disputes that. All settlements under Israeli occupied territories are illegal. What you call 'Ariel' was seized in 1978 under the disguise of 'military needs/exercises' and Palestinian villages were razed and Palestinians were displaced while the military brought in Jewish immigrants from around the world to live on stolen Palestinian land. And regardless of the belief the article states those in what you call 'Ariel' only amount to half of the settlements.

'Ariel' includes a major aquifer, the Israelis illegally steal Palestinian resources and seize land that is necessary for a future viable Palestinian state.

The number is actually higher at 2,269 settlements.

The one-state solution or Israel-Palestine confederation seems inevitable.

There's no solution, the pariah state will get away with whatever it wants to do and nobody will hold them accountable for their injustice. The only day this occupation will be defeated and justice will prevail is the day Muslims flood the mosques during morning prayers.

Still loving your muslims brothers who never help you from Jordania and Egypt?

InshAllah :)

The Middle East is kind of big. Can't other Arab nations offer more [empty] lands for Palestinian residents, who are derived from their land Palestine, Israel? Jewish people have no where to go i am afraid. Moving back to Europe won't change the fact that Europe and North America are not their homes, and nor they have nation that they can call as of their, exercising their Mosaic Law on their land.

I don't think any of this land is owned by Arabs. It's either JNF (purchased from Arabs) or state land that under international law (Mandate of Palestine) is legally supposed to be applied to "closely settle" Jews in Palestine:

Israel advances plans for 2,269 West Bank homes

Committee approves validation of 1,015 units in Leshem, Beit El and Almog and deposit 1,254 units in Ariel, Shvut Rachel and Shavei Shomron.

Israel has progressed with plans for more than 2,000 new homes in six West Bank settlements, an official said Thursday, in a move likely to further endanger peace talks.

Guy Inbar, a spokesman for the defense ministry unit responsible for civilian affairs in the Palestinian territories, said a ministry committee had furthered existing plans for 2,269 homes at a meeting last month.

He confirmed claims by anti-settlements Israeli group Peace Now about decisions on two sets of projects, which the watchdog said the committee had examined on February 19.

In the first case, the committee approved for validation 1,015 units in Leshem, Beit El and Almog, meaning the only remaining formality for their final approval is the okay of Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon.

The same committee approved for deposit 1,254 units in Ariel, Shvut Rachel and Shavei Shomron, meaning those projects will now be published in the media for public comment before returning to the committee for further discussion.

Haaretz newspaper, which first reported the story, noted the Ariel plans for 839 units had been "snarled in bureaucracy for the past decade," and the 290 units in Beit El were part of a promise made by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu when he evacuated a neighbourhood in that settlement 18 months ago.

Lior Amihai, a Peace Now official, noted that the decisions have yet to be officially published. He also told AFP that while the February committee was not the final stage of the planning process for the units, the decision to move them forward was extremely meaningful.

"Every stage of advancing (construction) plans in the (West Bank) is a political decision by Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon," he said.

US-led peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians are teetering on the brink of collapse ahead of an April 29 deadline for a deal.

Washington is fighting an uphill battle to get the two sides to agree to a framework proposal to extend the negotiations to the year's end.

So far, the Palestinians have flatly refused to consider any extension, partly over Israel's persistent settlement construction which has shown no let-up since talks resumed last July.

The new units would create "facts on the ground that distance us from the two-state solution", Amihai added, and were further proof Israel had "no intention to reach a peace agreement and was doing everything it could to force Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas out of the process."

On Wednesday, a municipal committee gave final approval for plans to build 186 new homes in East Jerusalem.

palestaneians already have enough space where they can manufactire RPGs and other rockets as much they want .. what else they need land for ?

:lol::lol::lol:

How would " the occupation " be defeated if Muslims flood their mosques during morning prayer. It would only result in an uncomfortable prayer session.

That means when there are large numbers of Muslims filling up the mosques they would fulfill their religious duty of fighting oppressors and occupying pariah states. You didn't notice the analogy I was making.
