Early morning on Feb. 22, seven pirate boats tried to take over an Iranian merchant ship in Red Sea, but were confronted by Islamic Republic's 29th naval fleet, Iran's Fars news agency reported on Feb. 22.

Iran's 29th naval fleet was in the area, doing special exercises, when the pirates tried to capture a merchant ship floating nearby, Iran's Deputy Navy Commander Rear Admiral Siavush Jarreh said.

The commander went on to add that the shoot out with the pirates lasted for several hours, after which the attackers had to flee.

Jarreh noted that the merchant ship received some damage as a result of the clash with the pirates, thus the fleet's repairmen took care of the damages, and the ship was escorted by the fleet.

On January 9, Iran's 28th Naval Fleet repelled another attack against the country's merchant ship, which was under attack from 8 pirate boats. The incident took place in the Gulf of Aden. The pirates had to flee after Iranian naval forces took swift action to thwart their attack.

In October 2013, Iran's naval forces rescued one of its country's merchant ships in Aden, which was attacked by five speedboats with armed pirates on board.

In September of 2013, Commander of the Iranian Army's 4th Naval Zone Admiral Khordad Hakimi said that Iran's Navy has escorted over 1,500 ships in the Gulf of Aden.
The Iranian Navy has been conducting anti-piracy patrols in the Gulf of Aden since November 2008, when Somali raiders hijacked the Iranian-chartered cargo ship, MV Delight, off the coast of Yemen.

honestly why let them go , just sank them and let the human right groups moans as much as they like about it . after all they already do the same about Iran.

No need to kill them off just capture them.

we have done that , as an example our navy rangers arrested one of their high profile leaders after he attacked a chineese boat and took some workers as hostages .

but they just wont end it !!!

But it's intriguing that after several hours of a firefight, the pirate boats didn't sink and managed to flee? One small hole by a 50 caliber round would have sent a boat to the bottom in minutes. In seven hours at least a hundred rounds would have been fired, but still they couldn't sink even one piddly little boat? Something doesn't add up here. :undecided:

They do it intentionally, if they want to sink their boats, it wouldn't take more than 1 minute. They just make them flee and don't kill them for humanitarian purposes. To be honest, I also disagree with killing them, although they are thieves, but their actions come out of misery their people and country is facing. If their country was prosperous, they would never do it.
