Iran Disbands 4 Terrorist Teams
TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps discovered and disbanded four terrorist teams earlier this year, IRGC Ground Force Commander General Pakpour announced on Tuesday.
Pakpour said enemies of the country had set up several teams of terrorists in Southeastern Iran and prepared them for vast operations both in border cities and deep inside the country on the turn of the (new Iranian) year (started on March 20, 2012).
"But all these teams have been annihilated," he said, and added, "Three of the four teams were destroyed by March 26-27 and the last team was annihilated recently."
He said the terrorists intended to carry out suicide operations throughout the country.
"The explosive power of the suicide vests that they had brought with themselves was three times more than the one which caused the martyrdom of General Shoushtari and his comrades," Pakpour said, referring to the assassination of his deputy Brigadier General Nourali Shoushtari along with 41 more people, including senior military officials, in a suicide operation by the Pakistan-based terrorist Jundollah group in Iran's Southeastern Sistan and Balouchestan province in October 2009.
The IRGC announced in a statement in March that it had dismantled a "terrorist group" and killed one of its members.
The IRGC forces managed to disband a terrorist team sent by the arrogant powers to stage terrorist operations and create insecurity in Southeastern Iran, said the statement released on March 28.
The terrorist group was busted by the Qods forces of the IRGC in Southeastern Iran, it added.
The terrorist group had penetrated into the Iranian territory to carry out terrorist operations.
The group, supported by the arrogant powers, was trapped and busted through a successful operation performed by the IRGC Qods forces.
During the IRGC operation, a member of the terrorist group was killed and two others were arrested.
Meanwhile, an enormous amount of equipment, flammable material and grenades were discovered by the IRGC forces.
The IRGC Qods forces are making their all-out effort to ensure security in the country's southeastern region.
