TEHRAN – Iranian Finance and Economy Minister Shamseddin Hosseini held talks with his Pakistani and Iraqi counterparts in Washington to further expand economic relations, IRNA reported on Monday.

The meetings were held on the sidelines of the annual meetings of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.

During the meeting with the Pakistani minister, Hosseini proposed the construction of Iran-Pakistan railroad. The Pakistani side called for finalization of the two countries’ preferential trade agreement.

Iran and Pakistan have agreed to increase the value of their bilateral trade to $10 billion in the future.

In the meeting with the Iraqi minister, the two sides called for expansion of all-out ties.

Iran and Iraq have agreed to boost their bilateral trade to $20 billion in the near future.

Iran has invested in building power plants, schools, hotels and brick factories as part of Iraq's reconstruction efforts. Iranian exports to Iraq include construction materials, petrochemicals, industrial and medical equipment and food.

Iraq's cabinet approved a $365-million contract with Iran in June to build a pipeline to move gas from Iran to Iraq for power generation. The five-year deal will generate 2,500 megawatts for Iraq, which has a chronic electricity shortage.
