Monday, April 07, 2014 - Tehran—Iranian, Afghan and Pakistani trade officials have worked out a new plan to utilize their countries’ abundant capacities to pave the ground for expanding trilateral trade relations, specially in the border provinces, an Iranian provincial official said.

Governor-General of Iran’s Sistan and Balouchestan province Ali Awsat Hashemi said that there are potentials for the establishment of two new free trade zones in the Southeastern province of Sistan and Balouchestan. “Iran is resolved to develop cooperation with the neighboring countries including Pakistan and Afghanistan to enhance investment and trade in the border areas,” he further added. Hashemi pointed to a joint commission that has been established by the governors general of Iran’s Sistan and Balouchestan province, Pakistan’s Balochistan province and Afghanistan’s Nimruz and Farah provinces.

He said that the commission would continue its efforts to improve the economic situation of the people living in the border areas. Iran and Pakistan exchange delegations on a regular basis and the two neighboring countries are keen to expedite expansion of their bilateral trade ties.

Iran is one of the most important donors to Afghanistan, which has kept its promises to help to the reconstruction of the war-ravaged country. Iran has built several roads, power transmission lines, border stations and many other infrastructure projects to better link the two nations. Iran has also contributed more than $50mln annually to Afghan anti-narcotics efforts during the last five years.—INP

These Three Countries could start a Trade Union like EU and let others Join in when they see the rewards of forming such a Union. Such a Union could eventually Include Turkey, Azerbaijan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan ( All in all 10 countries with a combined Population approaching 500 Million ).

I was just going to post this but thanks!

Iran- Afghanistan- Pakistan < this triangle has huge trade potential and that should be exploited by joint effort.

The golden crescent! :P

I kid; this will be good for the region. By the way, what currency is used for trades between countries that do not trade in US Dollars?

ECO is there but not active due to many factors, UN & US sanctions over Iran is one of the factors which are playing negative role not only in Iran, but to the whole region in the economic well being.

From this year 100% Pak-Afghan trade will be in $, it will help Pak gain extra $1 billion or more in foreign exchange.

The only guarantors of lasting peace is to have good trade relations, partnerships. Thus, bringing the national interest of each country in unison through which they can only move forward. Or even forge strategic level partnerships. . . Therefore, its a welcome news and one that we should pray gains traction.

It was still on as of couple of weeks ago. Did anything change since then? Any new news?

I said but there was some news regarding this ..... may be wrong ...
