BBC News - Indian troops killed in explosion30 July 2010
Five paramilitary troops have died in an explosion in India's north-eastern state of Assam, officials said.
Assam's main rebel group, United Liberation Front of Assam (Ulfa), has claimed responsibility.
Several other troops and 20 civilians were injured in the blast that hit a security convoy at Dhalukdubi in Goalpara district bordering Bangladesh.
Officials said that an "indigenous" explosive device triggered off by remote control caused the blast.
The Ulfa rebels have fought for a separate Assamese homeland since 1979.
The explosion hit a convoy of the Central Reserve Police Force that is deployed largely for counter-insurgency duties across India's troubled regions.
Muslim migrants from Bangladesh comprise the majority of the people of Goalpara.
