Heavy Engineering grabs Bangladesh railway order
Tapan Chakravorti / Kolkata/ Ranchi Jun 18, 2012, 00:02 IST
State-owned Heavy Engineering Corporation (HEC), Ranchi, has bagged the order for manufacturing machine tools for the modernisation of Saidpur railway workshop of Bangadesh Railway.
The order is significant as Bangladesh Railway is going for modernization of their railway workshop for the first time after British Rails had set up the railway infrastructure 140 years ago.
The work contract, for the order worth Rs 11 crore was signed recently in Dhaka by the director general of Bangadesh Railway, Md. Abu Taher and HECs Heavy Machine Tools Plant general manager G C Sinha.
HEC spokesperson said the export order from Bangladesh had given a major boost to HECs HMTP unit as it had become much dependent on India Railways for railways machine tools order.
He said that HEC might be benefited from Bangadesh assignment to get work orders from countries like Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Myanmar and Malaysia .
HEC also expects to get more orders from Bangladesh Railways in execution of infrastructure development projects.
