The Indian Coast Guard has commissioned four new vessels at Porbandar in the western state of Gujarat. The vessels - the Aadesh-class fast patrol ship ICGS Ankit(pennant number 247) and the interceptor boats C-419, C-420, and C-155 - were commissioned on 14 May.
In recent months, the coastguard has been commissioning multiple ships simultaneously due to a raft of deliveries generated by a number of build programmes under way at the same time.
The 50 m Ankit is the 12th of 20 fast patrol ships being built by Cochin Shipyard Ltd. Unlike the first 10 vessels, Ankit (and ship 11 Anagh ) are armed with a manually operated 40 mm Bofors gun in place of the 30 mm CRN-91 gun mount and associated electro-optical fire-control system.
