Army Hospital (R&R) celebrates International Nurses Day

Army Hospital (R&R), Delhi Cantt organized a programme to celebrate Nurses Day, today to commemorate the International Nurses Day. The Commandant Army Hospital (R&R) Lt Gen UK Sharma addressing as the Chief Guest emphasized that being the most important member of the health team, nurses make a significant contribution in the recovery process of the patients. He also expressed that the profession of nursing is not only challenging but also rewarding.

Speaking on the occasion, Additional Director General Military Nursing Services (ADGMNS) Maj Gen Anna KuttyBabu reiterated that nursing has undergone tremendous changes in response to social needs and influences in recent times. She said, right from the time of Florence Nightingale, the nurses have proved their worth to the whole world. Nurses’ Day is an important day as it is an opportunity to reflect on the enormous contribution made by this incredible profession, she stated.

A symposiumwas presented by the Faculty of College of Nursing on the theme of International Nurses Day 2018 - ‘Nurses: A Voice to Lead; Health is a Human Right’. Lt Gen UK Sharma presented Certificate of Excellence to the nursing officers for their contribution to the hospital.

Commissioning ceremony of first batch of BSC nursing college of nursing, army hospital (R&R)

Commissioning ceremony of the First Batch of BSc nursing students, College of Nursing was held here today.

Commandant, Army Hospital (R&R), Delhi Cantt Lt Gen U K Sharma addressing as the Chief Guest urged upon the newly commissioned nursing officers to nurture the ethics of Military Nursing Service and to serve the nation with competence and valour. He advised the new Lieutenants to keep abreast with the latest developments in the field of medicine and nursing and to care the sick soldiers with devotion, dedication and compassion. Lt Gen Sharma also congratulated the newly commissioned nursing officers and their proud parents. Addl DGMNS Maj Gen Annakutty Babu delivered an inspirational speech to the newly commissioned Nursing Officers.

Principal Matron, Army Hospital (R&R) Maj Gen Kajal Chakraborty, welcomed the dignitaries and Principal, College of Nursing Col Arnita Devrani delivered the batch report. During the ceremony the 30 young nursing students were commissioned as Lieutenants into the Military Nursing Services and were posted to various Armed Forces Hospitals. Lt Arunima GP and Lt Dixeena OA were awarded Commandants Silver medal for securing First and Second position respectively in the batch. The Best All Round Student Trophy was awarded to Lt Arunima GP and Lt Lata Kumari was adjudged as the Best Clinical Nurse.

Dream of ECHS Polyclinic at Tawang comes true

Raksha Rajya Mantri, Dr. Subhash Bhamre inaugurated the first Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS) Polyclinic in the remote high altitude area of Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh on 16 October 2018. Lieutenant General GS Sangha, General Officer Commanding Gajraj Corps and Major General R K Jha, General Officer Commanding, Ball of Fire Division were also present at the event along with officials from District Administration and large number of Ex-Servicemen of Tawang and adjoining areas.

The ECHS polyclinic in Tawang was a long pending dream of Ex-Servicemen in Tawang district. The scheme will provide quality medical care to all Ex-Servicemen and their dependents who could not travel upto the nearest ECHS facilities which were located approximately 350 Km away at Tezpur and Guwahati. This polyclinic will also act as a nodal point for treatment of veterans in the empanelled super speciality hospitals in major cities of India. Raksha Rajya Mantri also addressed the gathering and highlighted various welfare measures being undertaken by the Government for Ex-Servicemen.

25 Nursing Students Pass out from The College of Nursing, Army Hospital (R&R)

Lamp Lighting Ceremony of 5th batch of B.Sc Nursing students of College of Nursing held here today. The ceremony witnessed 25 budding nursing cadets adorn the uniform to begin their noble profession of nursing.

Chief Guest for the ceremony Commandant, Army Hospital (R&R) Lt Gen UK Sharma gave away the prizes to the following University level meritorious students -N/CdtParul, & N/CdtAnkita Mishra of IV Year B.Sc (H) for securing first and second rank respectively in class for BSc Nursing (H) final VIth semester examination of DU 2018. In his address, he stressed upon the fact that the students should not only enhance their knowledge, skills and competence but also learn the techniques of soft skills.

In an impressive ceremony, as per tradition, the lit lamp was relayed from ADGMNS Maj Gen AnnakuttyBabu, Principal Matron Maj Gen Kajal Chakraborty to Principal Col ArnitaDevrani who in turn passed it to the teachers. The teachers then transferred the light to the students denoting the transfer of knowledge & wisdom from one generation to the next.

Mobile medical teams deployed to affected areas

A Chetak helicopter from the Naval Air Station INS Parundu was deployed to carry out an aerial assessment of the devastation along the Tamil Nadu coast, up to Point Calimere, on November 16 and 17 in the aftermath of Cyclone Gaja.

“Helo (helicopter) sorties were undertaken primarily to assess the damage caused by the storm and locate the points where help is immediately required. The photographs that were taken have been shared with the district administrations to initiate relief operations in the most affected areas,” the Indian Navy said in a release.

12-member team
INS Parundu also deployed a mobile medical team to attend to the residents of affected areas.

The team visited five villages in Ramanathapuram district.

A team of 12 naval personnel from INS Parundu, including doctors, paramedics and other supporting sailors, held medical consultations and distributed medicines to those in need in the affected areas, the Navy added.

Salient Features:


  1. Setting up of the medical college at Silvassa, Union Territory Administration of Dadra and Nagar Haveli at a capital cost of Rs. 189 crore to be incurred in two years, 2018-19 – Rs. 114 crore and 2019-20 – Rs. 75 crore with yearly intake of 150 students.
  1. The project will be completed by 2019-20 and the construction and capital expenditure will be incurred as per the norms of Medical Council of India norms and extant guidelines of the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare.
  1. The annual recurring expenditure for the Medical College shall be managed within the budget provision for the Union Territory.
  1. Creation of 21 regular posts of 14 (JS) level and above (including teaching and non-teaching) out of 357 regular posts which were recommended by the Committee on Establishment Expenditure.

Benefits:

The approval will increase the availability of doctors and address the issue of shortage of doctors.. It will enhance medical education opportunities to students of the two Union Territories. It will also result in optimal utilization of the existing infrastructure of district hospitals and improve tertiary care facilities for the people of the two Union Territories and adjoining areas. The Medical College will benefit the students, especially those of tribal and rural areas of the two Union Territories, which will promote social equity. Health equity will be promoted by provision of better services through improvement in the strength of doctors in the Union Territories.

Directorate General Armed Forces Medical Services Military Medicine Conclave 2018

The first Directorate General Armed Forces Medical Services, Military Medicine Conclave was held here today. The aim of the conclave was to deliberate on issues and challenges being faced by the Armed Forces Medical Services today and to utilize the collective wisdom and experience of veteran leaders of the Corps who have led the Corps to its glorious present status. The conclave was attended by Armed Forces Medical Services veterans consisting of 34 Ex Directorate General Armed Forces Medical Services and Directorate General Armed Forces Medical Services of the Army, Air Force and the Navy along with the serving Directorate General Armed Forces Medical Services and other senior officers of the Armed Forces Medical Services.

Directorate General Armed Forces Medical Services and Senior Colonel Commandant AMC Lt Gen Bipin Puri welcomed the delegates and highlighted the significance of this unique endeavour.

The Army Medical Corps has had a glorious heritage spanning more than 250 years during which it has not only proven to be the anchor of military medicine, but also evolved as a peerless healthcare delivery system. It has kept abreast with the latest developments in the field of pan spectral, comprehensive care with numerous centres of excellence that are spread across the country.

The vast network of Armed Forces Medical Services medical units and establishments comprises the largest healthcare organization in the country with a disciplined, dedicated and professionally competent work force. Up gradation of the qualitative benchmarks is an ongoing process which cogently addresses the changing disease burden, harnessing of modern technology, optimal availability of resources and the ever evolving operational milieu. These contemporary challenges, which lie at the cross roads of finite manpower and financial resources including clientele expectations, were extensively deliberated at the conclave. The conclave saw a confluence of wisdom of the esteemed former Director Generals and current innovations and futuristic vision of the Armed Forces Medical Services fraternity.

Deliberations on such complex issues with a view to chart the future course were the highlights of the conclave. The Directorate General Armed Forces Medical Services, Lt Gen Bipin Puri, in his concluding remarks thanked all the former Directorate General's for having taken out time to actively participate in the conclave. He also assured the veteran luminaries that their suggestions, recommendations and views will be a valuable repository for defining the roadmap of the Armed Forces Medical Services to meet future challenges from a position of strength.

Indian Navy Conducted free Health Camp at Amarpur, Palwal District, Haryana

Indian Navy is conducting a free Health Camp for the general public from 01 to 03 Dec 18 at Amarpur, Palwal district, Haryana. The venue of the camp is Government Senior Secondary School, Amarpur. This camp has been organized as part of the outreach programme of the Indian Navy to bring about awareness in the general public about the role and task of the Navy and also to encourage youngsters to join Navy.

The camp was inaugurated by Surgeon Rear Admiral G Vishwanath, Additional DGMS (Navy) today (01 Dec 18). Shri Mani Ram Sharma, Deputy Commissioner, Palwal was also present at the function. The Health Camp endeavors to address basic health issues and provide medical checkup as part of Navy Week activities. It is pertinent to mention that, since last two years similar Health Camps were conducted at Amarpur, with overwhelming response.

A Medical Team consisting of 13 Specialist medical officers in various fields of Medicine and 24 Para-medical staff from the Naval Hospital at Mumbai have come exclusively for the Camp. The Specialists will conduct out-patient consultation for medical, surgical, gynaecology, paediatric, Eye, ENT and skin ailments. The Camp will also have a dental chair and will be supported by appropriate diagnostic and pharmacy facilities. There will be facility to screen for cancer cervix and cancer breast in women.

In addition to medical examination, the team will also organise health awareness activities for the general population through a Health Exhibition. In the premises of the school, a booth will be established by the Indian Navy Recruiting Directorate for people to obtain details on various recruitment procedures for the Indian Navy.

The special feature of the Camp was establishment of mobile laboratory with facilities to carry out blood investigations at Primary Health Centre, Amarpur on 29 and 30 Nov 18.
