Tell me something. If Indian Republic is 71 years old how is the Indian Airforce is 86 years old. Was the airforce born before the country??

If you mean the Raj's airforce called the Royal Indian Airforce then that is altogether another matter but bear in mind RIAF was the predecessor to both PAF and IAF. On the August 1947 when the Raj was dissolved all assets/institutions were shared out to the successor states - Pakistan and India. The infographic below should make the successor principle crystal clear.

You answered your own question. Cute Info-graphic.

The aircraft will also get new registration numbers, and may be adopted for vintage flight.

Republic of India inducted the Bison in 1963 and also got full technology transfer and rights to license build the aircraft in the country. It is the first supersonic fighter aircraft of the Indian Air Force.

The Indian Air Force still has about 120 Bison in service which will all be phased out of service by 2021-22. Most of these are the upgraded Bison variants but also includes one squadron each of Type-75 and Type-96. The Bison was the workhorse of the IAF for a long time and still continues to be the mainstay of the fighter fleet.

Akash Ganga Teams are even known as Indian Astronauts.

Mann Ki Baat on 30.09.2018

We celebrate Air Force Day on the 8th of October. Making a humble beginning in 1932 with six pilots and 19 Airmen, our Air Force has emerged as one of mightiest and the bravest Air Force of the 20th century today. From the core of my heart, I congratulate those Air Warriors and their families who rendered service to the nation. In 1947, when Pakistani attackers resorted to an unprecedented attack, it was indeed our Air Force which ensured that Indian Soldiers and armaments reached the battlefield promptly. The Air Force also retaliated befittingly in 1965 too. Who does not know about the Bangladesh Freedom Struggle of 1971? The Air Force played a very significant role in 1999 by pushing back the intruders and liberating Kargil from their clutches. The Air Force defeated the enemy at Tiger Hill by carrying out air sorties on their positions round the clock. Be it the relief and rescue work or disaster management, our country is indebted to our Air Force for the commendable efforts of our Air Warrior. They have always displayed a unique spirit in times of natural calamities like storms, cyclones, floods and forest fires to extend full assistance to our countrymen. The Air Force has set an example in ensuring gender equality and has opened its doors for our daughters of India. Now, the Air Force is offering the option of Permanent Commission to Women besides the Short Service Commission, which I had announced on the 15th of August this year from the Red Fort.

Indian can proudly claim that in the armed forces, our Army not only man-power but woman-power too is contributing equally. Women are already empowered and now getting armed too.

The fighter plane has the capability of taking off vertically, which has “increased the IAF’s power a lot”, says Flight Lieutenant Karan Kohli

The India Air Force’s beast — MiG-29 — has gained in strength and ferocity after an upgrade, giving the force which is battling a shortage of fighter aircraft a much-needed boost, according to officials.

The Russian origin aircraft, now capable of effecting mid-air refuelling, is compatible with latest missiles and can launch multi-dimensional attacks, Flight Lieutenant Karan Kohli, who is deployed at Adampur Air Force Station, said.

Even in the previous ‘legacy version’, the aircraft played an important role as the Indian Air Force (IAF) stamped its supremacy over the Pakistani force during the Kargil War of 1999.

Last week, the upgraded MiG-29 showcased its combat capabilities at Admapur Air Force Station. The country will celebrate the Air Force Day on October 8.

‘Capable to give befitting response’
“With the upgrade, as compared to previous ‘legacy version’ of the MiG-29 bought under emergency clause in early 1980s, the fighter jets are capable to give befitting response,” said an official, requesting anonymity, when asked about any possible two-front war with China and Pakistan.

Lt. Kohli said that upgraded MiG-29 also has Multi-Functional Display (MFD) screen.

On September 12, Indian Air Force chief Air Chief Marshal B.S. Dhanoa had said the force was reeling under a severe shortage of fighter aircraft. The IAF chief had said the force currently has 31 squadrons of fighter jets against the sanctioned strength of 42 squadrons.

“Even when we do have 42 squadrons, we will be below the combined numbers of two of our regional adversaries,” he had said.

The strategically important Adampur Air Force Station, which is around 100 km from Pakistan and 250 km away from China borders, is now equipped with upgraded MiG-29.

The IAF has three squadrons of MiG-29 fighter jets in operation, two of them at the Adampur Air Force Station. One squadron comprises 16-18 aircraft.

Upgraded with latest features

Lt. Kohli said that the force now has a combat aircraft which is flexible and can manoeuvre every situation so that IAF pilots can change their position and strike the enemy.

He also said that the fighter plane has the capability of taking off vertically, which has “increased the IAF’s power a lot”.

The upgraded MiG-29 aircraft can take off within five minutes of spotting a hostile jet trying to enter the Indian airspace and destroy it, he said.

“With air-to-air refuelling feature, the upgraded MiG-29 can cover larger distance as compared to the previous legacy aircraft and destroy the enemy,” said another IAF officer, who did not wish to be named, on the two-front war possibility.

“With the upgraded version, the range of aircraft has improved a lot. Moreover, in the legacy aircraft, we were restricted to the certain dimension, but we can now do air-to-air, air-to-ground and anti-shipping operation,” said a pilot who flies MiG aircraft.

The upgraded MiG-29 has all latest features, including a glass cockpit having digital screens. Old instruments in the legacy version of MiG-29 have been replaced with modern ones, Lt. Kohli added.

In the 1999 Kargil War, the Adampur station played an important role in destroying enemy fortifications located at heights of 15,000 feet and above. In the 1971 war also, the Adampur base was an operationally dynamic base for the air campaign against Pakistan.

In the 1965 Indo-Pak war too, Adampur proved to be nemesis for the Pakistani misadventures as several squadrons inflicted heavy casualties on the enemy.

Damn since when did the MiG-29 achieved this capability.
I guess that pretty much says enough about the credibility of the article and all other tall claims.

IAF chief BS Dhanoa introduced guests to Captain Faqir Singh (retd) at the Indian Air Force Day reception attended by PM Narendra Modi, several cabinet ministers and the country’s top military hierarchy.

Honorary Captain Faqir Singh (retd) was perhaps the most special guest at the Indian Air Force Day reception hosted by IAF chief BS Dhanoa at his Akbar Road residence on Monday. The 85-year-old veteran was Air Chief Marshal Dhanoa’s drill ustad (instructor) when he was a teenaged cadet at the Pune-based National Defence Academy in the 1970s.

Drill ustads are considered to be slave-drivers and are feared by cadets. That apart, the bonds forged during training can last a lifetime. “He (Dhanoa) was an extremely disciplined cadet. He was very good at drill. Drill is an important subject. It trains you to follow orders. Whatever order is given has to be followed,” said Singh, who is from 5 Sikh and retired in 1985.

“If you can’t follow orders, you are unfit for military service. Aage goli bhi chal rahi hai, tab bhi hukum maanna padega (you have to follow orders even if bullets are flying all around you),” said Singh, who is from a small village near Adampur in Punjab.

Dhanoa introduced guests to Singh at the reception attended by PM Narendra Modi, several cabinet ministers and the country’s top military hierarchy.

“Nothing can be more honorable for me than being invited by the Air chief to his house for this reception. He has given me so much respect. He was my cadet,” said Singh. He said Army chief General Bipin Rawat was also a cadet at the NDA in the 1970s, but he was in a different squadron.

Singh recalled that Dhanoa cleared the all-important Drill Square Test on the first attempt. “Some people take two chances, some take three. But ultimately all of them clear it,” he said.

Dhanoa had travelled to Adampur for a Presidential function last year. Then too, he had invited Faqir Singh to be a part of that ceremonial event.
