Indian Air Force may make Sachin honorary officer
Sachin Tendulkars list of achievements just never seem to end. In a recent development, the Indian Air Force has proposed to the defence ministry, to honor him with the post of Group Captain. There is a multi-stage process for the acceptance of the proposal. After the clearing of the file by the ministry, it will go to the Prime Ministers office and then to the supreme commander of the armed forces, The President, for approval.
The Indian Army has previously conferred the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel of the Territorial Army, on the star all-rounder of the yesteryears, Kapil Dev. Kapil Dev, as many fondly remember, captained the Indian cricket team to the World Cup triumph in 1983. Industrialist and aviation enthusiast Vijaypat Singhania was also decorated with the honorary post of air commodore by the IAF previously.
According to an IAF official, IAF has proposed to honor Sachin Tendulkar by granting him the honorary rank of Group Captain. We have sent the proposal to the defence ministry and they are considering it.
Sachin Tendulkars accomplishments on the cricket field need no mention and his humble and down to earth demeanor off the field has endeared him to one and all. In February this year, Tendulkar added one more page in his glittering book of achievements by becoming the first batsman to register a double century in a 50 overs match. He has previously been honored with the countrys highest sporting award-Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna and also the Padma Vibhushan award.
