New Delhi, May 4: To strengthen the education system in Afghanistan, India will provide training to about 120 school teachers from the war-ravaged country on student- friendly methods of teaching.

The HRD ministry has asked the National Council for Education Research and Training to prepare a specific curriculum for the Afghan teachers who will be coming to India this year.

"This for the first time such huge number of teachers form a foreign country will come here for training. They will be here for two years and will be imparted with the modern and students-friendly methods of teaching," said a senior HRD ministry official.

The teachers are coming as a follow-up to the Memorandum of Understanding signed between both the countries in collaboration on several areas, including education.

The training programme assumes significance as the teachers' training programme in Afghanistan is very week and has been affected severely in recent years, he said.

"The training will be imparted at the Regional Institutes of Education under the NCERT. The successful candidates will be awarded diploma certificates," he said.
