Army Chief General Bikram Singh said that India would soon set up a tri-service cyber command to counter cyber attacks.

He said that Defence Ministry has prepared a draft on the subject which the Cabinet committee on security, headed by the Prime Minister, would be taking up for discussion in coming days.

A report published in DNA said that the office of the chairman, chief of staff committee, has written a detailed note to Defence Minister AK Antony regarding setting up cyber command.

Some officials who presses for cyber command said that the need to have a cyber command has been felt for a long time, as the cyber security infrastructure of the country is weak.

Several incidents of cyber attacks on India include, Chinese hackers breaking into sensitive computer systems at the headquarters of the Eastern Naval Command in Visakhapatnam and leaking of sensitive files at DRDO.

Prime minister Manmohan Singh also highlighted the need for developing capacities to counter global surveillance operations.
