India will receive 15 Mi-17B-5 helicopters this year from Russia as part of the contract for 80 choppers.

Russia is to supply the helicopters to India within the framework of a contract India's Defence Ministry signed with Russia's arms exporter Rosoboronexport.
The contract is likely to be complemented with an extra order for 59 such helicopters, the general director of the Helicopters of Russia holding company, Dmitry Petrov, told Itar-Tass.

Russia is participating in the Indian Defence Ministry's tenders for the upgrade of 108 helicopters Mi-17 for the Indian army and 17 Ka-28 helicopters for the Indian Navy, Petrov said.

Buy, buy and buy may have other bad ramifications, but it won't bite the budget bill... With load of Petrol gone by decontrolling, Diesel next on line, strong incremental tax collection on the back of stronger results, some more telecom spectrum allocation to come up for bidding (4G next I think) and few more Govt Co IPOs in pipeline... 4.6% target will be met... Wait n watch... Pranab Mukharjee will deliver on that front... Just one monster is out uncontrolled... Monsoon... If that remains docile.. you will see a better than forecast numbers... Just that 1 monster...

Actually the Mi 17 are hailed by IAF as very reliable and the Russian products as a whole aren't the issue, but quality and reliabilty of parts, supply of spares, after sale support. These are key areas where Russians are clearly behind the western counterparts and that makes them so costly and difficult to operate some times.
