India successfully test fired Agni III from Odisha coast

The Strategic Forces Command (SFC), fired the long range Agni 3 missile with a range capability of over 3000 kms from Wheelers Island, off the Odisha coast today.

The trajectory of the trial was tracked by a battery of sophisticated radars, telemetry observation stations, electro-optic instruments and naval ships from its launch till the missile hit the target area with pin point accuracy.

Agni 3 missile is equipped with advanced high accuracy navigation system and guided by an innovative guidance scheme.

Quoting an SFC spokesman, “Such successful training launches clearly indicate our operational readiness to meet any eventuality as also establishes the reliability of this deterrent component of India’s Strategic arsenal”.

Some members were saying that weight of AGNI3 has been reduced but the article states otherwise.....

If we can compare, what are the weight and size (length, dia) values of missiles in this range category used by China, Russia, USA etc., ?

Some members were saying that weight of AGNI3 has been reduced but the article states otherwise.....

The author of the article said that. For all we know he must have noted it from wiki. DRDO hasn't given any details about the tonnage of agni-III

Now Agni is awaiting for ghuari, shaheen, babar ,hataf and nasr responses simultaneously....

Nahhh.. there will be only nasr response.. :P

A3 weight can be reduced to 22 tons. if its required

Do you want this to turn into a troll thread ??? :disagree:

mate you just wait for 2 days.we will know that some xxx has test fired zzz in response to A3

India test-fires nuclear-capable Agni-III missile

India on Monday test-fired its nuclear-capable Agni-III ballistic missile with a strike range of more than 3,000 km as part of a user trial by the Army from Wheeler Island off Odisha coast, defence sources said.

The operation of the surface-to-surface missile was carried out by the Strategic Forces Command of the Indian Army with logistic support from the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).

The indigenously developed missile was flight-tested from a mobile launcher at launch complex-4 of the Integrated Test Range at about 1655 hrs, defence sources said.

“It was the second user trial in the Agni-III series carried out to establish the ‘repeatability’ of the missile’s performance,” a DRDO official said.

For data analysis, the entire trajectory of Monday’s trial was monitored through various telemetry stations, electro-optic systems and sophisticated radars located along the coast, and by naval ships anchored near the impact point, the sources said.

The Agni-III missile is powered by a two-stage solid propellant system. With a length of 17 metres, the missile’s diameter is 2 metres and launch weight is around 50 tonnes. It can carry a warhead of 1.5 tonne which is protected by carbon all composite heat shield.

The sleek missile, already inducted into the armed forces, is equipped with hybrid navigation, guidance and control systems along with advanced on-board computer. The electronic systems are hardened for higher vibration, thermal and acoustic effects, a DRDO scientist said.

Though the first developmental trial of Agni-III carried out on July 9, 2006 could not provide desired result, subsequent tests on April 12, 2007, May 7, 2008 and February 7, 2010 as well as the first user trial on September 21, 2012 from the same base were all successful.
