IHC bars finance adviser from heading cabinet body
Web Desk On Dec 7, 2020 Last updated Dec 7, 2020

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday barred the finance adviser from heading the cabinet committee while also declaring the constitution of the cabinet’s body on privatization as illegal, ARY NEWS reported.

The plea against the constitution of the cabinet committee was submitted by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) in the high court.

The IHC bench, headed by Justice Aamir Farooq and Justice Ghulam Azam Qambrani, while announcing the verdict, which was reserved earlier, approved the plea of the PML-N against the constitution of the federal cabinet committee.

The IHC annulled the notification issued on 25 April 2019 for the formation of the committee and declared the inclusion of advisers on commerce, investment, and institutional reforms as illegal.

In another decision earlier in the day, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) dismissed a plea challenging appointments of advisers and special assistants.

A two-member bench of the IHC comprising Justice Aamir Farooq and Justice Ghulam Azam Qambrani released the reserved verdict in the open court. The verdict was reserved on September 9, after the completion of arguments from both sides.

The Senate should prosecute the government and hold it accountable.

The strategic implications of these were pretty much clear when ruling party announced giving businesses more say in strategic planning of the country.

Essentially the courts identified corruption but again restrained from prosecution leaving that for concerned authorities, conveniently.

Based on technicality not corruption in this instance.

Unfortunately government does not have money so if we want to go on big public sector investments we need public private partnerships. Its a necessity and yes it would benefit businessmen, so we should keep such parties out of the decision making process as making a profit isn't a crime but undue benefits are not given.

I would rather have these highly qualified experts in their fields included in policy making rather than dynastic politicians who've barely passed BA and end up making policies which increase their business interests. Politics is investment heavy so we have no shortage of people who see it as a investment to grow their assets.

Of course legality is a must. Once we have a new senate which would be elected soon, legal aspect should be cleared with proper checks for misuse of power in case of conflict of interest that is those involved in planning should not be direct/indirect beneficiaries.

The conflict of interest lies between the government and her mandate.

From housing scams to sehat cards, the government has only rewarded and awarded select friends and family.

The matter has come down to a belief system politics where one party believes god given right to be not corrupt and the other party believes in god given right to rule.

Public and Pakistan is just collateral
