The single mega event in the history of country, International Defence Exhibition and Seminar (IDEAS) 2012 is estimated to generate business worth $10 million in the national economy on sustainable basis through national companies and their international partners said a report by the Daily Times.
IDEAS has been proved to be an excellent platform for national companies having high caliber productions of engineering and technology based security equipments, machines and accessories.
Through every series of IDEAS our local small scale manufacturers find ample business opportunities, said Commodore Siddiq Akbar of Defence Export Promotion Organisation (DEPO), businesses would enhance manifold after this years due to extraordinary participation of national companies along with their cutting-edge security and defense products.
Pak Vehicle Eng, PHSADC, Daud Sons, POF, PAC Kamra, HRI-PAF, Alsons, GIDS, Pakistan Navy, Karachi Shipyard, MTE Directorate TE, Procon Eng, Lyra, Alsons Industries, Makkays, HIT, DGMP and Sigma Motors were among the local participants.
He said some of major indigenously developed products had been showcased in IDEAS-2012 including Main Battle Tank, Al-Zarrar, JF-7 Thunder Aircraft, Missiles, arsenals etc, while Hataf and Shaheen missiles were also been put on display.
Pakistani defence products are in much demand as currently Pakistan exports its defence products to five continents of the world. ‘This is the reason above 50 countries had taken part in the IDEAS-2012. They are potential buyers, which in turn will benefit the economy of the country, he added.
Our capabilities will surely result in receiving a good number of contracts/orders as we used to won contracts in the face of tough competition from developed countries to manufacture various defense related needs of countries in Middle East, Asia and Africa, he added.
He said there were 56 countries displayed their products in IDEAS 2012 that include Canada, China, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Pakistan, Russia, Singapore, South Africa, Thailand, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, Ukraine and United States of America.
Large-scale exhibitions definitely have multidimensional impacts on any industry. For example, IDEAS-2012 was attended by large number of foreign exhibitors in the country and this proved well for tourism, hotel and exhibition allied services industries, he added.
The exhibition accelerated small and medium sized business activities and generate thousands of employment opportunities, he said.
IDEAS was the biggest event of the country that explicitly portrays a positive image of Pakistan in the rest of the world.
On symbolic level this exhibition showed the world Pakistan is a peaceful country that has a capacity to hold large scale defence related exhibitions successfully, he added.
Moreover, international defence seminar and conference at the exhibition provided local and international defence experts a bigger platform to share their knowledge hence the arm industry’s key players get valuable insights about the latest technologies.
