Suddle spills the beans on IB operatives
* Intelligence Bureau chief files document in courts containing details of bureau officials postings, operations, secret assignments
Daily Times Monitor
LAHORE: In a major security gaffe, Intelligence Bureau chief Shoaib Suddle revealed the identity of 70 senior Intelligence Bureau (IB) covert operatives on various assignments in the country and abroad, a private TV channel reported.
According to the channel, the secret information was leaked in a 96-page legal petition filed by Suddle with the Supreme Court (SC) challenging a lower courts decision in a case regarding seniority of IB officials.
The information was first placed before a subordinate court and later before the SC. The otherwise confidential details provided in the document placed before the SC reveal the IB senior officials complete bio data, including place of posting, and undercover postings in the United Kingdom, Canada, Afghanistan, Iran and Kazakhstan, the channel reported.
Having become a public document, the information can now be accessed by anyone, threatening the lives and careers of the mentioned officials, the channel said.
The IB chief and his administration overlooked the facts that many of the details provided to the courts would endanger the lives of many of its operatives abroad and across Pakistan, as some of the operatives are working in restive areas of the frontier region, the Tribal Areas and northern areas, the channel said.
Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry would take up the petition on Monday.
