A Pakistani answers a question in Quora. He basically says Bengalis were the most creative people of Pakistan who contributed immensely to the growth of Pakistani film industry. Bengali films gave huge competition to loud Punjabi films.

Many Pakistanis feel that that besides religion, there wasn’t much in common between East Pakistan and West Pakistan, and sooner or later that part would have separated. But it is also a fact that both Eastern and Western Wings of Pakistan collaborated in many fields and produced excellent results f0r e.g. Pakistani film industry -
When Eastern Wing (Now Bangladesh) was with us, Pakistani film industry (both quantity and quality wise) was growing very fast and posing a threat to Indian Hindi Film Industry as many Pakistanis of that time(50s, 60s, 70s) used to watch their own local productions. The reason was that Eastern Pakistanis were more educated, generally more liberal, used to admire and promote arts (dancing, singing, acting etc wasn’t considered a taboo in East Pakistani society) and soft and mellow Bengali Cinema used to keep loud and jarring Punjabi Cinema in check and often used to compliment it. Even a quick glance at Pakistani film industry will show that many “firsts” came from East Pakistani or Dhaka Film Industry -
First Pakistani film to win Gold Medal in Foreign Film Festival - Jagu Hua Savera (The Day Shall Dawn - 1959) came from East Pakistan - even though many Western Pakistani intellectuals like Faiz Ahmed Faiz also contributed to the storyline. The film was rediscovered by Western film critics recently and was shown at the 2008 New York Film Festival.
First full length color film of Pakistan - Sangam (1964) also came from East Pakistan.
Similarly, First Cinema scope film of Pakistan Mala (1965) also came from East Pakistan.
East Pakistani actors like Shabnam, Shabana, Reshma, Chitra Sinha, Babita, Nasima Khan, Rehman, Razzaq etc were very popular in West Pakistan because they used to speak Urdu with accent which made them very popular in Pakistan. Shabnam - (real name Jharna Basak) is considered as the most popular actress in the history of Pakistan + she also won the most number of Nigar Awards. And surprisingly she was a Bengali Hindu.
Babita
Shabnam (most popular Lollywood actress in the history of Pakistan)
Chitra Sinha
Also they had some of the best music directors like Robin Ghosh, Khan At ur Rehman, directors like Zahir Rehan and singers like Firdousi Begum, Shahnaz Begum, Runa Laila, Bashir Ahmed etc .
The original SOHNI DHARTI ALLAH RAKHEY QADAM QADAM AABAD TUJHE, JAB TAK HAI YEH DUNIYA BAQI HUM DEKHIEN AAZAD TUJHE was also sung by Shenaz Begum - Thanks Shehnaz Begum - luvvvvv ya! <3 <3 <3
When East and West Pakistan separated in 1971, some of the most popular Bengali actors like Shabnam, Rehman, Robin Ghosh etc refused to leave for Bangladesh and stayed in Pakistan and continued working there for decades.
Shabnam and Rehman
Robin Ghosh and Shabnam recently visited Pakistan and were given warm welcome -
East and West Pakistani actresses eating together at a film festival -
Waheed Murad with Shabnam
When common Pakistanis think about Bangladeshis or the then Eastern Pakistanis, they think about cultured, beautiful intelligent people who separated from us and become nostalgic about those good old days spent together.
