Governor Sindh Muhammad Zubair says that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) offers growth opportunities to numerous sectors including the hotel industry in Pakistan. Addressing a convention, he said that CPEC was providing safe access to market in Pakistan and beyond and has led to movement from domestic and local businessmen and professionals, which is translating into an increased demand of hotel services. It must be noted that major cities in Pakistan are seeing a rise in hotel occupancy rates and new facilities are being erected for people to be housed at, which is a basic indicator of rising business activity in the country.
KARACHI: Sindh governor Muhammad Zubair said on Tuesday that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project offers unique opportunities to revitalise Pakistan’s hotel and hospitality industry.
Addressing the annual convocation of National Institute of Culinary Art and Hotel Management, Zubair said the mega project will pave way for fresh avenues of prosperity for the province and the country through series of opportunities, including easy and safe access to international markets.
“The next 10 years will be a golden period for the province, and especially Karachi, hence, prudence demands that concentrated efforts are made for capacity building of the local youth,” he said. “The available resources must be efficiently utilised for promotion of hotel and hospitality industry as this is crucial to streamline opportunities created through the megaproject.”
The governor added that improved law and order situation in Karachi during the past three years has allowed many foreigners to take up residences in the country’s financial capital.
“In view of the situation and growing interest of foreign investors, along with other visitors, we must have a vibrant and well-groomed workforce for our hotel industry and its associated sectors,” he said. “This demands that we chalk out an elaborate programme to streamline our industry on strong and updated lines.”
Meanwhile, on a separate occasion, Zubair called on Minister of State for Information Technology and Telecommunication Anusha Rehman to discuss issues relating to the IT sector.
Rehman informed the governor that the ministry was rigorously pursuing the agenda of “Digital Pakistan” in its true letter and spirit.
“In view of this agenda, the entire country, including rural areas of Sindh will be connected through the Universal Service Fund,” she said.
