Saffron terrorism is a reality in India but no one can dare name it. Home Minister P. Chidambaram was muzzled by his own party and the government when he spoke against it.

The Hindu majority has a blind spot for terror among its own. There is a conspiracy of silence on the issue. Fanatic Hindu outfits have proved to be not merely slogan-shouting fringe lunatics with crazy ideas but cold-blooded maniacs driven by an unending lust for hate and violence. Recent events in India have exposed a criminal conspiracy of making bombs and planting them in places where Muslims can easily become suspects and mobilize public opinion against the minorities. In such incidents suspicion remains firmly and automatically fixed on young Muslim men who are detained, investigated, interrogated and tortured to extract false confessions even when the casualties are Muslims.

The divisive politics and violence of the fanatic Hindu groups have claimed many victims, and most precious to fall was the Father of the Nation Gandhiji himself. It is the same mindset that did everything to hasten the partition of India. There are many who silently support such extremist ideas and having such rabid communal attitudes in professions like politics, media, academics, law and judiciary. Communal approach to terrorism must be condemned as Hindu radicals and Muslim radicals are two faces of the same coin. Indian Muslims have been falsely blamed for partition of the country and all acts of terror. Organized riots, fake encounters and communal police and judiciary are examples of state-sponsored Hindu terror. Just prosecute the criminals, irrespective of religion.
