Thread on behalf of Ssg1956
here is what he is saying:

My family want to me to buy something where I can store movie from computer, USB, internet and record from digital satellite (my digital satellite is STRONG SRT 3650) and then plug into TV to play the files. Anyone know about media please help.
I found some HDD Recorder but I am not quite sure if I can record movie in it from digital satellite.
Thanks alot for any one who make this thread for me!

On topic: i think you cannot record movies from digital satellite, directly, as you may get some copyright notification. For playing, you can use the USB Hard drive to store media and then play on your LCD having USB support.

Yeah buddy. I know something like that. Wait for it, I saw something similar in a store here.
I will contact you soon.

It would be better if you join some technology forum as you will find some media professionals there. If you get your problem solved, please do share here.

:coffee:Need Tech help you are in the right place.

Check out Western Digital and Seagate external desktop portable hard drives.

I would recommend if you have a wireless router and high speed internet and a good cheap desktop assuming you have HDTV, connect the desktop with TV using vga cable and you can use it well enough for watching movies online, watching stored pictures and do other things.

This is what I have done; I have a PC in my library room attached are 2 western digital desktop 3TB external hard drive (hate 2 would wish WD would release larger single 6/8 TB hard drive) with all the contents and a Dell Zino HD is attached to HDTV when ever I want to watch movies/stream TV series etc I just switch to HDMI mode which already is tuned to HDMI desktop mode and play those contents all through wireless. what sucks is I don't have a remote and have to use wireless mouse.

Expensive idea but worth it.

If you have PVR Satellite receiver it must have storage generally it has 1gb of storage and you can record programs and there is USB port you can connect external drive to record programs provided you have done all the setting. But I am thinking how is satellite receiver working in Pakistan? Is it FTA satellite?

Thanks your Idea wasn't bad.
My Satellite receiver doesn't have storage and doesn't have recorder.
Connecting my laptop or Pc to HDTV doesn't suit me cos if I use my laptop for movie storage then it must be available for my parent to watch the movie any time thus there is no guarantee that it will be available lol.
I found something like HDD recorders on eBay and they have AV IN, I believe they can record from Satellite receiver as they said you can record your favourite channel from TV. (may be this way the 3 colours cable white, red and white) from receiver to AV IN HDD recorder and from HDD recorder to TV through Video output........ RECORD PLUS VIEW). some come with WiFi or LAN feature as well.
Can you confirm if I am right or something?

OK guys I have bought what I was looking for? It is called HD Media Player with recording capability (also come without recording capability) with recording capability one you record channel into internal or external HD or some have dvd recorder and you can record your video on DVDs. You can store video, audio files, photos etc. I found the device from eBay site and asked the seller if I can record channel from digital satellite and they replied yes you can, simply connect yellow, white and red connector from your satellite output (video, audio output) into HD media player AV-IN.
The media player I bought is NOONTEC version V6, other versions have wifi capability. I can help you if you got any question.
