The Hellenic Navy is undertaking sea trials of a new special operations craft, as shown in photographs of the trials released by the navy on 4 December.

Under the Okyalos programme, the all-aluminium fast craft was locally designed and built, under Hellenic Navy supervision, in 2014. The 14 m craft can embark a crew of four. Speed, range, and sea-keeping characteristics are designed to allow the craft to undertake missions at distance in adverse weather conditions.

Fitted with a full navigation suite, the craft is armed with a locally designed, remotely controlled, bow-mounted weapon station, which can accommodate a heavy machine gun or a grenade launcher. Given the craft's dimensions and stern cargo area, it is estimated that it can accommodate a rigid hull inflatable boat (RHIB) or a detachment of combat divers.

Upon concluding its trials, the craft shall be assigned to the fleet's Underwater Demolition Command, joining its flotilla of unconventional warfare craft, which currently numbers at least 10 hulls.
