Did Ambassador Haqqani Grant Visa To Faulkner Thinking He Was CIA?

How did US citizen Gary Faulkner manage to get entry visas for Pakistan six times, bring along weapons, roam the military-prohibited tribal region, and not once catch the eye of Ambassador Husain Haqqani and his staff at the Pakistan embassy in Washington DC?

This question is important because only a few months ago Ambassador Haqqani faced accusations he issued visas to tens and possibly hundreds of US citizens without verifying who these visa applicants represented. Most of them, however, claimed to be traveling on US government business. Pakistani security officials suspected Mr. Haqqani was basically facilitating US intelligence agents and private security contractors for Pentagon and CIA. By directly issuing visas, Mr. Haqqani avoided the long route through the Pakistan Foreign Office, which also meant verification by law enforcement agencies.

This issue is so close to Ambassador Haqqani's heart that at one point late last year he fired a letter to Pakistan's Foreign Secretary and ISI chief warning them that blocking visas to US citizens would endanger the supply of military hardware.
Mr. Faulkner traveled to Pakistan six times and was caught in the last one carrying a gun, a knife and hashish while 'hunting' for bin Laden in the Pakistan border region. He lied to Pakistani investigators that he planned to cross into Afghanistan. He never tried to cross into Afghanistan in the previous five trips.

Despite violations of Pakistani visa and laws, he was released without a single charge, not even a police report for the record. This was done most probably on the orders of Interior Minister Rehman Malik.

While it's nice to be nice to others, the problem is that such generosity is never reciprocated by the US government, which continues to prosecute innocent Pakistani college students on terror-related charges in cases where FBI agents planted flimsy evidence to promote their careers.

Compare Faulkner to Adnan Mirza, a twenty-something Pakistani and his cousin Shiraz.

Adnan remains in jail for the past 4 years because FBI is forcing him to accept guilt while he won't accept something he didn't do. The so-called evidence against him consists of [believe it or not] a tape recording where an undercover FBI agent pretending to be Muslim lead him into a conversation on Iraq and Afghanistan. Adnan's cousin Shiraz, whose wife and child are US citizens and whose aging parents live with him in the US, was released by a US judge for lack of evidence. But last week, FBI descended on him as he celebrated his child's birthday after Amb. Husain Haqqani colluded with US authorities to issue his deportation papers.

This is the worst part, where the Pakistani ambassador has actually been forcing these kids to accept the false charges against them. What Mr. Haqqani should have done was to tell US authorities that fake terror cases against Pakistani citizens for war propaganda purposes would hurt US-Pakistan relations. But of course Mr. Haqqani can't do that. (target killing by RAW could be the reason)
Moral of the story is that Pakistanis can rot in US jails but a US citizen who is in clear violation of Pakistani laws will always be promptly released by a pro-US government in Islamabad. These Pakistani officials, whose lives and careers exist outside Pakistan, don't even have the imagination to drive a fair bargain by exchanging Mr. Faulkner for Mr. Mirza, or even for Dr. Aafia Siddiqui, who might be partially guilty in some ways but whose method of punishment would forever remain a stain on the faces of those American and Pakistani political and intelligence officials who handled her case.

It is important to add a nore here about how ordinary Americans have dealth with Adnan Mirza's case in Houston. Ordinary Americans are good people who are confused and scared because of these fake terror cases. Many of them are coming out now to defend Adnan Mirza. These are college students and charity acitivists who knew him. But Amb. Haqqani won't defend this Pakistani because, well, Mr. Haqqani can't upset FBI since he has to live in the US long after the incumbent US-installed Pakistani govt. is gone.

P.S.: Mr. Faulkner plans to return to Pakistan in August. Let's see if Amb. Haqqani will grant him a visa for the seventh time.

Another Ahmed Quarishi idiocracy and hate-post targeting his favourite guys Rehman Malik and Haqqani. Interior Minister does not control the KP Police. He was released due to bad health and he's clearly a lunatic.

Ahmed Quraishi’s Visa Conspiracy…Debunked
June 25th, 2010

Ahmed Quraishi’s latest column is a laughable conspiracy theory that is a natural follow up to his foolish (and quickly disproven) claim that an American city government had posted anti-Pakistan signs. It seems he is willing to believe anything, no matter how ridiculous. This latest story claims that Husain Haqqani and Rehman Malik were part of a conspiracy to get the ailing Gary Faulkner into the country to hunt Osama bin Laden because they mistakenly thought he was CIA.

According to Ahmed Quraishi, Haqqani and Malik let this old man with poor health and a criminal record into the country because they mistakenly thought he was a top-secret CIA agent. Here is an interview with this man that supposedly Husain Haqqani and Rehman Malik mistakenly believed was a spy:

The man is clearly mentally disturbed. It is sad really. But how are we supposed to believe that anyone mistook him for a CIA agent?

Ahmed further claims that “only a few months ago Ambassador Haqqani faced accusations he issued visas to tens and possibly hundreds of US citizens without verifying who these visa applicants represented.”

Where is the evidence for this? This is a very serious claim for Ahmed Quraishi to make. If he has some evidence that this is a fact, he should present this to the government. If he has no evidence, is this anything but slander?

Despite what Ahmed Quraishi might want to believe, an Ambassador does not usually issue travel visas personally. Actually, there is an entire Embassy staff to review visa applications and grant a stamp of approval.

Second, the deportation of an individual instead of prosecution is not unusual, even from US to Pakistan. In May, a US judge ordered a Pakistani man suspected of helping Faisal Shazad to be deported back to Pakistan, not to to “rot in US jails” like Ahmed tries to say. Even Ahmed’s claim that Haqqani has been “forcing these kids to accept the false charges against them” does not follow reality. A Boston Globe article from May reported that Haqqani was working to protect Pakistanis accused by American law enforcement.

Pakistan’s ambassador to the United States said yesterday that three Pakistani men arrested in New England last week as part of the investigation into the attempted Times Square bombing do not appear to have any involvement in terrorism.

Husain Haqqani, who has been briefed by Pakistani officials, said that law enforcement cast a wide net during the investigation and that the three men were only taken into custody because alleged immigration violations were discovered while they were being questioned.

“For all we know, there will be no connection at the end of it,” Haqqani said during a telephone interview. “I’m a little critical of law enforcement who ran to the press first, because you can actually destroy people’s lives. So far, there is nothing that implies anything of a terrorist nature.”

When Ahmed sums up his argument, it is laughable.

Moral of the story is that Pakistanis can rot in US jails but a US citizen who is in clear violation of Pakistani laws will always be promptly released by a pro-US government in Islamabad.

Except that this is not even close to true. Does Ahmed not read the news? Is he so disconnected from reality that he is living on another planet? Let me provide a news clipping from the USA today: “Americans Get 10 Years in Pakistan in Terror Case”.

A Pakistan court sentenced five young Americans from the Washington, D.C., area to 10 years in jail for plotting terrorist acts in the country after they connected with an al Qaeda-linked jihadi via the Internet.

…

A State Department spokesman said embassy representatives have followed the case closely and ensured the defendants’ rights were protected.

“We have met periodically with each individual and have not seen any evidence of mistreatment,” said the spokesman, P.J. Crowley. “We will continue to…support them during the appeals process.”

It turns out that Ahmed Quraishi is once again incorrect. Americans can rot in Pakistani jails just the same. He won’t admit this, though, because he is not a real journalist but a propagandist only.

Let’s be realistic, please. If Ahmed Quraishi really believes that a “50-year-old ex-con and construction worker with ailing kidneys” could be mistaken for a CIA agent, he needs to have his head examined. More than likely, though, Ahmed Quraishi thought this would be a clever way to plant a new conspiracy theory. Problem is, his theories have gotten so silly that they don’t even make sense to people who want to believe them

Insane westeners cannot find their way to Pak Afghan border and remain invisible all their journey, got hold of wepons.

We deserve to know why in hell's name he was granted visa for 6 times?

If he really was hunting bin laden than what are the details of his previous trips?

Why our govt. hastened to free a criminal without charges?

How come, an active cheif justice of Pakistan ignored such case?

ANY ANSWERS to above pressing questions?

This poor person is very disturbed and incoherent. They should section him for his own protection more then anything else. Re: visa's, one of my friends from GTZ a german aid org is working in Islamabad and has made 10 trips to Pakistan (is he CIA) :P

No.. you did not go the point of title!
It says every visa has a catagory and all CIA officers were granted visa on vogue term of 'official bussiness' and hundreds of visa were issued and hudereds of American traveled in and out of Pakistan.

Even Haqani wrote letter to foreign secretary and ISI threatning that Pak army should not question him for visa issuing rules other wise Pakistan's F-16 will be sanctioned, because those whom he is issuing visa are US officials (CIA).

This is the real question was he also issued visa on similar grounds? if yes than what documents made Haqani believe that he was a US official? other wise govt. should come forward and clear up the matter that he was not on official visa but on visa to kill bin laden!!! case closed.

And the Pakistani embassy and Ambassador, approved his visa six times - and yet some claim it's a conspiracy story? Something certainly must have gone wrong, instead of examining what, we have people trying to claim that it's all conspiracy rubbish, that seems not just unfair but dangerous.

Everyone knows that ambASSador Haqqani is working for U.S. interests and not Pakistan's.

Everyone knows that ambASSador Haqqani is working for U.S. interests and not Pakistan's.

you are wrong... not everyone knows it..
many people dont even know his name.

you should say.. people who know his past.. what he is presently doing and saying on record or off record can clearly see that he is very anti-Pakistan Army and hates ISI.. his position as an ambassador is a big question mark.. but saying everyone knows he is working for US is an exaggeration... people in Pakistan cant care less who he is working for because it wont make a difference..
what matters is that the people entering in Pakistan are checked and shadowed if there is a small doubt about their stated intentions about entereing Pakistan.

Rehman Malik.. this time on behalf of foreign office!

Mansoor can

FAISALABAD: Interior Minister Rehman Malik on Saturday said US businessman Mansoor Ijaz could not enter Pakistan without a passport and visa. Talking to the media here, he said the enemies of democracy did not want the well-being of the people and the Pakistan People’s Party. “Work on the preparation of voters’ lists is in progress,” Malik added. He said the PPP did not step into power riding on any dictator’s shoulder.

APP adds: Rehman Malik said the Interior Ministry did not issue visas to anyone without permission and security clearance. He said all visas were being issued after clearance by the concerned security agencies. “Therefore, news reports regarding issuance of visas to any American or others without security clearance and verification carry no authenticity.”

“The PML-N always stabbed democracy whenever it had a chance. Nawaz Sharif had forgotten all the promises to strengthen democracy which he had made in London,” he added.

“Only those people will be allowed to cast votes in elections who have valid Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs) while the people will also be provided the facility to confirm their votes through SMS.”

Malik said under Supreme Court directives, all-out efforts were being made to complete computerised voters’ lists by February 2012. “In this connection, Nadra staff is working in double shifts.”

He said the PPP leaders had made sacrifices for the promotion of democracy and these sacrifices would not be wasted.

Earlier, addressing the inaugural ceremony of the passport office in Jaranwala, Rehman Malik said the government had declined all demands of the PML-N regarding immediate elections because democracy was restored in the country after a long struggle. He said the PPP had come to powers with the people’s support and it would complete its five-year constitutional tenure.

Today, Mansoor Ijaz is a security threat & need permissions, security clearance and visa!
