The Gwadar port on Thursday started receiving government imports of bulk cargo as three vessels carrying 90,000MT urea arrived at the port and clocked the fastest discharge rate.

The Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP), on behalf of the government, decided to handle the import of urea and wheat through the strategically significant port. The decision to use Gwadar port will ease congestion at other ports. High traffic of vessels carrying bulk cargoes delay operations and transportation of shipments, which in turn disturbs the entire supply chain mechanism.

After the bulk cargos were discharged, they were bagged at the port and are being transported from Gwadar to other destinations in Pakistan. From next month, the port is expected to start handling of 450,000 MT of wheat, said a press release.

Cargo ships docking at the port also offer substantial benefits to locals living in the nearby cities as they help generate economic activity and open employment opportunities.

Gwadar Port offers substantial economic benefits to importers in terms of efficient operations, advanced cargo handling, vast storage facilities, extensive ancillary facilities, and faster turnaround. Its unique geographical position makes it a fast-economical link between some of the land-locked central Asian states.

Interesting to see Chinese text on a sign at that port!

Now Balochi protests will increase. How dare you develop our area 😅😅.
As has been happening for decades.

It's ridiculous, the backwardness amongst our people

Any hint of development and we have these backwards idiots, incite a backwards local population into ridiculous protests that scare away any investment and development

Something HAS to be done and laws need to made to lock up inciters, we don't have the money to agree to this blackmailing and we need development first and fast so we can look after these idiots and our 230 million population

Gwader, the the tribal areas etc we need to get our act together

Our leaders need to get their act together. If they fix the foundational issues, public narrative, and restructure our institutions into effective competent ones, then we can crack down on problematic areas much more easily.

So a 40 year lease then?
Yes, they pretty much own it for 40 years and share a small sliver of profits with Pakistan. This is a better deal than Sri Lanka got where they handed over Hambantota port for less than a billion dollars. I would say China does good deals. However, to be honest, anyone sinking huge amount to develop Gwadar is taking a huge risk and needs to be well compensated.

No one complains if they get a fair slice of the cake.
The cake has to be made first to have a fair slice or any slice.
The stupidity of Pakistani people in certain areas is so abysmal that they start disruption before the projects have even started to make any money.
Same us gawadar. Its in development phase right now. Once it's fully deployed and starts functioning, only then money will be made and some local Baloch can start going nuts for having a slice of it, just because he lives about a mile away from the city and has no contributions in it , and is unemployable in any projects as too ignorant.

This psychology is by no means exclusively Baloch. There is the false assumption that any large public or private investment in a poor or backward area has to bear fruit to the locals immediately. Typically, they are unskilled and are not very helpful in the initial stage of the project that requires a great deal of skill and experience due to all sort of unexpected things happening. If they wait for it to complete and run for a while, they can get training as apprentices etc., and join in, but somehow a 50+ year old dryland farmer has to benefit from a steel plant or auto plant erection.
