Unidentified gunmen have shot and wounded Pakistan's religious affairs minister Hamid Saeed Kazmi during a drive-by attack in Islamabad.

The shooting took place close to the politician's office in the capital city.

"Gunmen sprayed bullets on the minister's car," said a police officer, who identified himself as Qasim.

Islamabad doctor Masood Pasha said Mr Kazmi suffered a gunshot wound to a leg but was in stable condition.

The shooting was another reminder of the precarious security situation in the nuclear-armed country.

It took place as security agencies in the capital were on high alert.

Mr Kazmi's guard was also wounded in the attack, said Dr Pasha. Police officer Muntizar Hassan said the driver of the vehicle was killed on the spot.

TV images showed several bullet holes in vehicle, which crashed into a tree. Blood stains were visible on the seats.​

it was responsibility of ISB Police to give him cover...

I think LJ and Punjabi taliban can be behind this attack . Minister is from South Punjab and Punjabi taliban are very strong there

secondly after the shahadat of Hazrat Mollana Sarfraz Naiemi , Sunni leadership was expected to be targeted again especially those ulema who were against extremism and fanaticism
in all cases Govt failed to give a minister security

Ulema of all fiqah could resolve the problem of terrorism , Sufi ,Shia , Deobandi and Sulfi/wahabi/Ahlhadees , these are major groups active in Pakistan , GOP need to form a shaurah council of these groups , this is the only solution of peace.

We have to keep in mind that Sulfi/wahabi/Ahlhadees groups are a minority and should be treated as such and not really be given the time or space to included in any exercise in helping the nation .The media should give only 1-5% coverage time to these groups and the govt should go full swing into infiltrating these groups and tarnishing there image......any madarassa that is funded by them must have a sufi-sunni centric teachings or be taken over by the state.

i like Sufi school of thought. Very spiritual and mystic. Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan the great icon of Pakistan - he would be crying if he knew of what was going on in this great country. Thank God he is not witness to this. Taleban/wahhaby ideology incompatible with our people and our social fabric. We will fight to our death!! Down with terrorism.
