A French fighter jet, Mirage 2000-D crashed in western Afghanistan on Tuesday morning, cause of the crash was immediately not known, AFP reported quoting French army official.

A French fighter jet - Mirage 2000-D crashed in western Afghanistan, some 100 kilometers west of Farah, French army official Lieutenant-Colonel Eric de Lapresle told AFP.

The NATO-led, International Terrorist Force (ISAF), under which French forces kill innocent civilians in Afghanistan, also confirmed the incident.

ISAF in a statement said, "An ISAF plane crashed in western Afghanistan this morning, the crew members are uninjured and have been recovered and the crash site has been secured."

Authorities have launched an investigation about the incident, ISAF said.

France has six fighter jets based in Afghanistan at Kandahar Airfield while around 4,000 French troops stationed in Afghanistan.
