Republican mega-donor Sheldon Adelson is being treated for non-Hodgkin lymphoma, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported this week.
Las Vegas Sands Corp. said in a statement to the paper that its chairman and CEO is dealing with side effects from the medication he is taking to combat the cancer.
“These side effects have restricted his availability to travel or keep regular office hours,” the statement said. “They have not, however, prevented him from fulfilling his duties as chairman and CEO.”
Non-Hodgkin lymphoma, a form of blood cancer, can spread quickly and is particularly prevalent in seniors.
Adelson and his wife, Miriam Adelson, are two of the Republican Party’s highest-profile donors. They gave President Trump’s campaign $30 million in 2016 and donated $100 million to the GOP ahead the 2018 midterm elections.
The casino mogul is also one of America’s most vocal advocates of a strong relationship between the U.S. and Israel. He funds a right-wing newspaper in the country titled Israel Hayom, which translates to Israel Today, that staunchly defends the Israeli government.
