Gilani seeks Korea's Samsung help to run Railways

SEOUL: Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani Wednesday said fast speed rail service is need of the hour in Pakistan to improve its transportation facilities and asked the Korean company Samsung to utilize available facilities in Pakistan in this regard.
Talking to President Samsung C&T Ho Joon Shin here on the last day of his visit to South Korea, Prime Minister Gilani asked him to help in operating railway between Lahore and Islamabad to utilize their experience in this field. Chairman Board of Investment Saleem Mandivawala and other officials were also present in the meeting.
The prime minister appreciated President Samsung's interest for investment in LNG terminal and CNG bus service in Pakistan and encouraged them to sign MoU with Board of Investment for expanding bilateral relations.
The President Samsung C&T told the premier that they can bring LNG to Pakistan through off-shore facility within 20 months while through coastal LNG project could be completed in 40 months.
The PM directed the Chairman Board of Investment Saleem Mandviwala to arrange a meeting with Minister of Petroleum to discuss the proposition in details with a view to overcome every difficulty in Pakistan as the earliest.
The proposal for producing electricity based on LNG was also discussed in the meeting and the Korean company agreed to look into the proposal and ready to conduct research on it.
Prime Minister Gilani also appreciated the performance of Samsung C&T on the world stage in building of landmarks such as Petronas Tower and Burg Khalifa. (APP)
