MULTAN:

Former premier Yousaf Raza Gilani has said that he would prefer to go to jail instead of appearing before the National Accountability Bureau for an inquiry.

In an interview with The Express Tribune, Gilani said that with every passing moment, every institution under the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s government was hatching conspiracies against the Pakistan
Peoples Party, especially against President Asif Ali Zardari.

He said that the Supreme Court registrar was given three extensions during his service and did not even appear before the Public Accounts Committee when he was summoned by its then chairman Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan.

“How can I appear before an institution whose credibility was challenged by the son of the chief justice of Pakistan, by not appearing before NAB?” asked Gilani. The PML-N government is trying to involve me illegally in every inquiry.

“How could we lose in the elections, when we had won every by-election before the May 11 polls on the basis of our performance?” he asked. During his tenure there was suo motu notice on every transfer, appointment and hiring, but today there is silence from one institution.

“I don’t expect justice from any institution. They have even failed to implement a simple judgment of the Asghar Khan case,” he said, concluding that NAB and its supervisory institutions were not holy cows and still had to prove their unbiased credibility
