Gas stations close across Iran after ‘cyberattack’ reportedly disrupts country’s smart fuel system
26 Oct, 2021 15:34

Gas stations across Iran were out of service on Tuesday after an alleged cyberattack brought down the smart fuel system, which allows citizens in the sanction-hit country to buy gasoline at a reduced price.
Long queues of cars have been reported at gas stations across Iran after the electronic cards suddenly stopped working shortly before noon.
Iran’s elite Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and several state-run broadcasters have said that the disruption is the result of a cyberattack.
They didn’t name the culprit behind the hack, but Tehran has been long blaming its regional archrival Israel of carrying out cyberattacks and sabotage activities, targeting Iranian nuclear facilities and other key infrastructure.

Lasted for a few hours and it is back to normal. It is suspected that it originated from the Zionist entity in desperation.

More than 80 percent of Iran's gas stations have returned to service, a spokesperson for the National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company says, after a massive cyberattack disrupted the sale of subsidized gasoline.

"The number of stations connected to the smart fueling system has been increasing … and we hope the system will be fully operational by the end of today," Fatemeh Kahi said.

The attack on Tuesday disrupted the sale of heavily subsidized gasoline in Iran, causing long queues at gas stations across the country.

Subsidies allow Iranians to buy regular gasoline at 15,000 rials per liter or 5 cents a liter. Each motorist with a smart card is provided a monthly ration of 60 liters. For non-subsidized gasoline, they have to pay 30,000 rials a liter or 10 cents a liter. By comparison, regular gasoline costs 89 cents a liter on average in the United States.

Secretary of Iran's Supreme Council of Cyberspace said the massive cyberattack on refueling systems in Tehran and other cities has been contained and all gas stations are returning to normal.

Or was with the help of inside Iranian traitors (as it's usual), or it was a serious security error by Iran.

Because USA does not need to subsidize gasoline, and depends on free market forces to determine the price, as it should be.

when they use Windows xp which is filled by backdoor and holes as backbone of their systems they must except such incidents even incidents worse than that

No matter what software u use if u control each byte of the network.

China understood this and due to that they invested in Huawei core networks and they didnt develop another OS.

You can use a computer filled with trojans with no risk if you block each connection from outside.

if you knew all trojans
windows is close source built and filled with trojans in an enemy country
if it was to me I only would have used open source os for the job or an os built by myself

I agree but keep in mind it's very easy to western states put undercover agents as open source developers who make backdoors as "bugs" in open source projects.

I remember a few years ago a serie of bugs in encryption open source software as OpenSSL.

So the best option it's control the network as China does, and no matter what software u use.

You can't control network. Even china can't completely control it.
To be honest the problem is even deeper than that I don't knew about GPU but any x86 CPU has back doors in hardware level exactly in their core in lowest possible levels .and can easily get remotely accessed.

Yes, but there are levels and levels of security.

If you use a exploit you risk to discover how works to the enemy.

So the most useful and importants bugs (like hardware bugs) are only used in very importants targets, and I think only Americans know about that, I dont think the Israelis know it (becase it would be a risk for USA security too).

Here we are talking about hack gas station payments system. Maybe just forbid all non-national connections from the payment system it would be enough to avoid a hack.

By the way, when I visit some Venezuelan government websites with my Spanish ip address I can't access it and I need a proxy with Venezuelan ip address .
Little things like that are enough to stop little Israeli devils and low-level attacks.

Think "anything can be hacked" and "it's not useful take steps to protect" is a error.
