Just pondering over one of the most efficient weapons in Pakistan's war against Taliban - The tribal militia? What will become off them once the war is over?
Will they stay simple and flexible enough to move back to regular life in midst of farmland and animal husbandry after having the taste of a hardcore war. Is this a plausible possibility or wishful thinking?
It has been witnessed several times in history - A war changes one's perception of life in general. Will the simple chores of Daily life stay attractive enough in the post war era? One thing is for sure, these tribal militia support attack on US and NATO forces, they are violent and religious at the same time with prevalence of Gun culture beyond what is witnessed in any regular society. While their motivation and utility can not be doubted and their knowledge of the terrain and the enemy is second to none, The planning for their future has to start right now to ensure a smooth transition back to their previous lifestyle.
Can it be ensured that these militia do not turn into another monster as Taliban since they share the same origins and mindset. Their call for war is also in the name of God. While they enjoy full support and a free hand in this war, What will become of them once they are removed and they would be expected to return to the rigours of common life in tribal areas?
Question also remains what stop them from infight once the common enemy (Taliban) is removed? With new weapons and advanced training and having tasted a war, How normal will they still be?
Is their any plan to either
a) Make an organized division (Para military / Police) out of them
b) Rehabilitation and psychological nursing to remove war strains.
Thoughts / Comments please.
