President Trump said France’s Bastille Day celebration that he attended in July with French President Emmanuel Macron was such a “beautiful thing to see” that he’s thinking of holding a similar parade in Washington as a salute to the US military.
“It was a tremendous thing for France and for the spirit of France,” Trump said during a news conference Monday with Macron at a New York hotel during the United Nations annual gathering. “Because of what I witnessed we may do something like that on July Fourth in Washington down Pennsylvania Avenue. I don’t know if we’ll have to try to top it … but it was a beautiful thing to see.”
The president said he immediately reached out to his administration when he returned home from the Paris extravaganza to see about setting one up as early as next year in the capital.
“We’re actually thinking about that … having a really great parade to show our military strength,” Trump said.
