AHMEDABAD: Four long range radars have been set up along the coastline of Gujarat and Maharashtra for better surveillance, Air Marshal Ravinder Kumar Dhir, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, South Western Air Command, said here on Wednesday.
"The Indian Air Force is working in conjunction with Indian Coast Guard and Indian Navy to assist them in maintaining a better level of surveillance along the coastline," said Dhir when asked if the security measures have been upped in the area of SWAC's responsibility after recent reports of undesirable activities along Gujarat's coastline.
Dhir spoke to mediapersons on the eve of the IAF's 83rd anniversary on October 8. On Government of India's thrust to encourage indigenous manufacture of defence equipment through its `Make in India' initiative, Air Marshal Dhir said, "There has been progress in the country with regard to defence procurement procedures in which a lot of emphasis is on 'Make in India'. This initiative will help domestic industry to launch themselves full steam in defence equipment production'.
The AOC-in-C said the newly established Air Force Selection Board in Gandhinagar and Airmen Selection Centre in Vadodara for officers and airmen respectively will go a long way in providing better avenues of selection for people of Gujarat into the IAF. He will be administering the oath of allegiance to all air warriors and civilians working in the IAF during a ceremonial oath taking ceremony at SWAC headquarters in Gandhinagar on the Air Force Day tomorrow.
