KARACHI: Pakistans foreign exchange reserves increased by $70 million to $14.389 billion during the week ended October 19 from 14.319 billion a week ago, according to the central bank on Thursday.
The official reserves of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) rose by $15 million to $9.829 billion as compared to $9.814 billion last week, it said.
The net foreign reserves held by commercial banks soared by a modest $55 million to $4.560 billion from $4.505 billion a week ago.
Analysts said that the surge in foreign exchange reserves is an outcome of increased remittances inflows, which the expatriate Pakistanis have send to their families ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.
