One would at least hope they would have gone for the food and drug stores (for medical stuff) but they went for the sneakers instead .

I posted a tweet of that footlocker looting on the hurricane thread shortly after it was aired with a comment that you knew this was bound to happen. And it is very sad that there isn't really much doubt of a particular group that is almost always front and center of these criminal activities, as insensitive as that might be, I don't think there is much argument there unfortunately.

The authorities made it a point not to call for rescues which probably gave a lot of these people the idea that if the cops weren't going to be around much, it will be easy looting. It's a tough position to take because while trying to encourage people to evacuate and warn them that there won't be any services available to help during the worst part of the hurricane, they set themselves up for this. I guess they couldn't really say "we can't rescue you but we'll be out there protecting properties." Not sure that would've worked any better.
