First UAE kite fest at DSF
KITE lovers can look forward to flying high this winter as the 16th edition of the Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF) will host UAEs first Dubai International Kite Festival.
One of the many events of the DSF (which begins Jan. 20), the Cox & Kings Dubai International Kite Festival will feature a gathering of kite flyers from the around the world. The kite festival will take place at the Dubai Creek Park amphitheatre on Jan. 21 from 10am to 5pm.
International kite flying teams from India, USA and Kuwait will showcase their skills.
The one-day event will showcase names such as David Gomberg Kite Team (from USA), Team Mangalore (from India), Buhamai Kite Team (from Kuwait) among many others.
Besides a mega kites display, the festival will also see workshops being hosted, where people can learn everything from making kites to flying them.
Kite flying is a major outdoor sport in India and a popular recreational activity at the time of Basant (Festival of Harvest) and Makar Sankranti which marks the transition of the Sun into Makara rashi (Capricorn) on its celestial path in India and Pakistan.
Kites of all shapes and sizes are expected to go on display including life-size characters and theme-based models. Moreover, a performance by Dubai Drums will be one of the highlights of the event in addition to tunes played by various DJs and RJs.
Family passes for the event is available for Dhs50, couple passes for Dhs40 and single tickets are available for Dhs30.
