First UAE kite fest at DSF

KITE lovers can look forward to flying high this winter as the 16th edition of the Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF) will host UAE’s first Dubai International Kite Festival.

One of the many events of the DSF (which begins Jan. 20), the Cox & Kings Dubai International Kite Festival will feature a gathering of kite flyers from the around the world. The kite festival will take place at the Dubai Creek Park amphitheatre on Jan. 21 from 10am to 5pm.

International kite flying teams from India, USA and Kuwait will showcase their skills.

The one-day event will showcase names such as David Gomberg Kite Team (from USA), Team Mangalore (from India), Buhamai Kite Team (from Kuwait) among many others.

Besides a mega kites display, the festival will also see workshops being hosted, where people can learn everything from making kites to flying them.

Kite flying is a major outdoor sport in India and a popular recreational activity at the time of Basant (Festival of Harvest) and Makar Sankranti — which marks the transition of the Sun into Makara rashi (Capricorn) on its celestial path in India and Pakistan.

Kites of all shapes and sizes are expected to go on display including life-size characters and theme-based models. Moreover, a performance by Dubai Drums will be one of the highlights of the event in addition to tunes played by various DJs and RJs.

Family passes for the event is available for Dhs50, couple passes for Dhs40 and single tickets are available for Dhs30.

First? I have organized and participated in at least 10 (once a year). No sissy ones either, participation of at least 10,000.

Kite Festival has always been a Pakistan Pavillion thing at DSF when we pitched in for the last freaking 10 years! This is the first time Indian Pavillion is managing it, but its so BS that they are marketing it as the first ever.

We did it for free, what crap these guys are charging it. Given the fact that most participation is from Pakistanis and that too low income Pakistanis in Dubai, no way they are dishing out AED 50.

I think we are still going to organize one out of DSF, the only problem each year is finding a large venue due to the sheer number of participants.

Basant is now officially a Lahori domain.

Bo kataaa!

Perfect rythm coming out after that smoking weed everyday.

every heard of nylon thread and urethane gloves??
As they say, jab tak haath cheer-o-cheer na hojaye, basant ka maza nahi aata.

Come on; urethane gloves!!
Next someone will suggest wearing "finger-stalls" or C0ndoms next.
No true-blue kite-flyer will use stuff like that.
