ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Defence Production Rana Tanveer Hussain visited Military Vehicles Research and Development Est (MVRDE) on Thursday. The Minister was accompanied by Secretary Defence Production Lt Gen (Retd) Tanvir Tahir and Additional Secretary Maj Gen Raza. Director General MVRDE Maj Gen Rehan greeted the Minister upon his arrival at MVRDE. During the briefing, the Minister was appraised that MVRDE is a Research based organization which works on the principle of self-reliance. It conceptualizes the design of military equipment and finalizes the project. The standards of the finished projects are checked and fully ensured. MVRDE indigenously develops military equipment and provides vital operational and logistic solutions to the tri services.
The Minister inquired about many issues related to the functioning of MVRDE and was given satisfactory replies by the DG MVRDE and Secretary of Ministry of Defence Production.
The Minister also desired that procedural hurdles in the smooth functioning of MVRDE may be looked into and removed.
The Minister was also briefed about the items being produced.
He greatly appreciated the indigenous projects undertaken by MVRDE and also the fact that the organization is helping save a substantial amount of foreign exchange.
The Minister afterwards visited the display center and saw the equipment and simulators being made at MVRDE.
The Minister appreciated and acknowledged the skill of the workmen.
He also showed keen interest in the simulators designed for training of pilots and drivers of aircrafts and tanks. The Minister hoped that the organization would flourish in future and reiterated that full support will be provided by him in which ever capacity required.
Earlier, Rodolfo J Martin Saravia, Ambassador of Argentine called on Minister for Defence Production Rana Tanvir Hussain here at his office.
The Ambassador who gave a courtesy call congratulated the minister on his success in elections.
The Minister hoped that the goodwill of relations between Argentine and Pakistan would continue.
During the call on, bilateral issues of importance between both counties were discussed. A joint venture agreement for setting up a plant for manufacturing of CNG vehicles cylinder between an Argentinian company M/SInflex Argentoil and POF which has been pending since long.
The Ambassador also called for the revival of the project pointing out that “with the arrival of the new government people of Pakistan have a strong feeling that things will greatly improve”.
The ambassador appreciated the defence exhibition IDEAS 2012 and called it a wonderful venture by Pakistan.
The minister thanked the ambassador for offering services to Pakistan in exploring areas of cooperation and bilateral interests.
