I have a few doubts about an issue one often gets to hear when talking or reading of muslim clerics. I have listed below some questions on the subject of issuing a fatwa. Hope to get suitable replies to the Q raised. Any additional inputs are welcome.
Kindly keep national / regional / Political / religious per conceived thoughts out of the replies .
1. What is a Fatwa ?
2. Who or who all can issue it / them ?
3. Can a fatwa once issued be recalled / cancelled ? If no, why not ? If so does only the same cleric have to recall it ?
4. Can a fatwa issued by a cleric be cancelled / amended / superseded by another " senior ' one ?
5. How binding is it & can it be discussed amongst the muslim community ?
6. Do fatwas have a " time limit " ?
7. Before issuing a fatwa does the cleric discuss it amongst a body internally ?
8. Can the cleric in the neighborhood Mosque issue a fatwa on any subject & will it have to binding on all muslims worldwide ?
9 What is the logic / background / necessity of issuing fatwas ?
These Q are by no means comprehensive, may add more as time goes by.
