KOHAT: The family of Shahzeb, the alleged facilitator in the murder case of medical student Asma Rani, has accused the police of implicating him in the case to cover up their inefficiency.

Speaking at a press conference here on Monday, Zeb Hassan Advocate, the brother of Shahzeb, and his father Aurangzeb, expressed distrust in the police investigation and asked the Chief Justice of Pakistan to take sou motu action against ‘injustices’ being meted out to them.

They disclosed that the police were claiming that Shahzeb was arrested from an unknown location which was wrong.

Zeb Hassan said a police inspector came to their house and said Shahzeb was wanted in Asma Rani case and demanded his custody.

Claims he was tortured in custody

On the occasion, Shahzeb’s father said: “I told the police that Shahzeb is presently not at home and as soon as he returns they will bring him to the district police office. Consequently, we took Shahzeb to the DPO office accompanied by former MPA Iftikharuddin Khattak, former presidents of Kohat bar Amaad Azam and Khursheed Advocates and eight other elders. The DPO said that they will question him briefly and then release him. But when my son did not come back home by evening I was scared and contacted the police who told me that he is involved in the high profile murder case. He was then tortured the whole night.”

Aurangzeb said he was ready to swear on the holy Quran that his son was innocent, adding he was a cancer patient so why would he tell a lie.

He said police from Punjab should be brought to investigate the case as he did not trust the KP police.

Zeb Hassan also claimed he had the video when the police were parking the motorcycle in their house, which was later alleged by the police to have been used in the girl’s murder.

Amaad Azam Advocate, when contacted by Dawn to know whether he accompanied Shahzeb to the DPO office, he said the family of Shahzeb had twisted the whole story, and that he would give details in that regard soon.
