Here’s a picture of a two-year-old Nigerian toddler with a Danish caretaker.

His superstitious parents thought he was a witch, and wants to harm them. So, unwilling to raise him, they abandoned him on the streets.

They didn’t even consider taking him to an orphanage. The helpless child wandered the streets for eight months, left to the mercy of extreme weather conditions, and the crumbs he got from pedestrians.

He slowly emaciated and became disoriented due to malnutrition.

Fortunately, he was picked up by the charity worker who was horrified by his skeletal frame and pathetic condition. Overcome by compassion, she carried him, gave him food and water, and sheltered him.

After alleviating his thirst, she wrapped him in her blanket, and rushed him to a hospital for further treatment.

The boy was thoroughly cleaned with soapy water, and then taken for a thorough examination.

Doctors diagnosed he was riddled with worms due to the prolonged unhygienic exposure, and also suffered a low blood count. They admitted him to deworm him, and instantly started blood transfusion to supplement the lost RBCs.

The Danish lady named him Hope, believing it will encourage his battle towards recovery.

Hope’s condition gradually improved, bringing a smile on the faces of the rescue team. In a short time, he became well enough to sit unsupported or smile shyly when he saw a friendly face.

His health continued to improve steadily. Soon his frame returned to form, and his lifeless eyes started to sparkle with life. The doctors continued with the blood transfusion. He soon began to eat directly instead of being fed intravenously.

Anja Ringgren Loven, the Good Samaritan, oversaw the convalescence of Hope, and solicited public support to take care of his heavy bills. In just two days after making an appeal for funds to treat him, resources poured in without measure.

Overwhelmed, she cleared his bills and went on to build a charity home with her husband in her native country Denmark, to save lives of poor children who are similarly distressed.
