PESHAWAR: More than 50 stalls displayed homemade goods designed by women from Chitral, Mardan, Bannu, DI Khan, Swat, Multan, Bahawalpur among other places at an exhibition that started on Tuesday.
The three-day exhibition titled “Summer Trade Fair- II” will provide a platform for women entrepreneurs from all over Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) to increase trade activities.
More than 52 stalls featured modern and traditional ready-made garments, handbags, decoration pieces, jewellery, bed sheets, traditional handicrafts and other products.
Fareeda Yasmeen from Kanju, Swat who lost her shop in the 2009 Meena Bazaar blast in Peshawar said that she depends on such exhibitions for sales. On the side, Yasmeen buys raw material in Kanju for making shawls and gets Rs110 for a single piece that takes three weeks to complete.
Nasira Khan from Charsadda while displaying traditional handicrafts told The Express Tribune that the fair is a boost to sales of handicrafts which is the main source of income for women entrepreneurs and skilled woman of rural and underdeveloped areas. “So far the response has been pretty good,” she added.
The event is being organised by the Women Business Development Centre in collaboration of the K-P Tourism Corporation.
