RAWALPINDI, Sept 20: Acting on an intelligence report that some people suspected to be belonging to the East Turkestan Islamic Movement (Etim) group are planning to target Chinese restaurants in Islamabad, Karachi and Lahore, authorities have directed law-enforcement agencies to take appropriate measures to avert any untoward incident, it is learnt.
Sources quoting the intelligence report said that a suspected member of Etim, Abdul Raheem, might target a ceremony to be held on the national day of Peoples Republic of China on Oct 1.
They said that law-enforcement agencies had been asked to take all measures for the security of Chinese nationals. They have been particularly asked to beef up security around a famous Chinese restaurant on the Margallah Road in Islamabad as the place had been mentioned by the intelligence report as the possible target of a terrorist attack.
According to a senior official, security for foreign nationals especially the Chinese working in the country on various projects had already been increased. He said they were being provided security cover during their inter-city movements.
