Engine for New Combat Airplane Tested
First test flight of the flying laboratory Su-27M, equipped with an engine, designed for a new combat airplane, was successful.
Before the flight, the engine was tested during special and endurance tests. New combat aircraft, known as the fifth generation aircraft or advanced frontline aircraft system, is being developed since 1990s.
New aircraft system will have several unique properties: 24-hour operation, all-weather capability, stealth properties and long-lasting supersonic flight. The aircraft will be equipped with new airborne navigation instrumentation and highly effective automatic defence system. The aircraft starts tests in 2010.
