The raptor engines run on methane because it can be made on Mars. Natural gas is primarily methane .

There isn't much choice. Starship is primarily a Mars rocket. If you fly to Mars you have to fly back. Methane is the easiest fuel to synthesize on Mars.

Remember you have to get off Mars and out of its orbit which requires a lot of fuel...and you won't have the big booster to help you off the surface.

Yep that's true , but what do you think about Elons goal of putting 1 million humans on Mars by 2050 ?

They do CNG conversion in Dhaka for $150. No appointment needed !

I think they'll have to figure out how to survive on Mars first before sending a million people. They'd need robots on the surface working night and day starting tomorrow just to prep something for 1 million people by 2050.. Most likely needing to dig underground or under a mountain for protection.

I guess we know what the Boring Company is really for.
